silly question re: canned mushrooms

Can I fvry them if i drain them? cant go to the shop and recipie requires mushrooms to fry in with onion in a pan?

you don't need to but you can.

They will be wet though so will sizzle and spit even if you drain them well, so stand well back.

What are you cooking, could you just add them at a later stage?

I was going to make cottage pie and the recipe from the bbc said to put mushrooms in?
Cant say I've had cottage pie with mushrooms before but worth a try.
I bought 2 kilos of mince from tesco online by accident, have frozen 1 kilo and wanting to use the other half up, thought i could freeze it afterwards and just cook it and put mash on for quick meals later.

just fry the onions as per the recipe, then add the mushrooms to the pot with the mince and seasoning and stuff. No need to cook the mushrooms through or anything, they can literally just be chucked in.

Thanks squonk! I do that with spag bol, but thought maybe it should be fried with cottage pie.
