used too many stock cubes. again.

I've added extra water and more veg, but are there any herbs or spices or somehting that act as an antidote to salt?

I think I heard once that adding potatoes does the job, they soak up the salt or something like that. Might be completely wrong though!

Don't potatoes soak up salt?>[thinks so}

AMumInScotland · 15/07/2008 16:41

Yep, raw potato will soak it up

Teuch · 15/07/2008 16:41

put in some potatoes and then take them out before they get all soft and start to break up.

muggglewump · 15/07/2008 16:42

I've heard the potato thing too but never tried it. I think you're supposed to put it in whole, cook for a while and then chuck it (the potato, not the soup).
If all else fails, make another batch with no salt and then mix the two

great, potato it is then. thanks!

How did it turn out?

Laugs · 17/07/2008 10:01

Hi, had forgotten all about it.

Well, I'd already added some extra water and more veg, followed by a potato at yuor suggestion, and it definitely tasted better and not salty.

So couldn't say for sure it was the potato that saved the day, but mentioned it to a friend later who had done that herslef and said it works.

Potato should be peeled apparently, and removed before the end.

thanks for your help!
