Is it ok to roast a whole chicken the day after it's use by date?

wow, I opened my chicken today (dated today) smelt a bit smelly, washed it and it smelt fine!! I have taken back chickens or throw them away before, never thought of washing them Its cooking atm, are you sure we aren't going to die of food poisoning??!!

does it work on chicken breasts etc, DH threw a whole pack of chicken breast away last week because they smelt, and they were in date..

well it tasted fine, and DH even ate the leftover chicken, so it must have been ok as he is very funny about dates etc

sparky - even if the bone has gone a bit mangy the meat will usually be fine. Just take the bone out with a knife and cook well.

just imagine the smell of your feet if you wrapped them in cling film

well Ds1's foot smelt BAD when he was in plaster for a month so I can imagine its the same.. lol
