Browning mince without a frying pan

Bought a large packet of minced beef last night to make a batch of spag bol, forgetting that I'd had to throw my frying pan out last weekend after DH killed it (don't asked!!)

Any MNetters have a bright idea how I can brown it??

None of my other pans are any good - any way I could do in the oven?

Do I even need to brown it if I cook (oven bake type thing) it thoroughly?

Can't you just bake it in the oven?

If your saucepans are no good, I would have thought spreading it out on a roasting tray in the oven would work ok. As long as its cooked, I think the browning is not that important?

I always brown mine in the saucepan that I'm going to use to make the bolognese in - just do it a bit at a time and pour it out into a bowl, then add it all back in when you add teh tomatoes, etc.

do you have a casserole dish? stick it in there with some oxo cubes and water adn stew it as though you were making mince and dumps then once cooked drain it and add to spag bol sauce

Sorry - fell asleep , so much for making the most of having a free afternoon!!!

I shall go and try the all in one pan approach that FFF suggested!
