what about pate?

bit of natural yoghurt, horseradish, lemon juice, black pepper. Lush.

Or in a salad with beetroot and baby spinach.

Or, as usually happens in our house, forget it's in the fridge until 2 weeks past best then give to dogs.

pate (mush up with butter + lemon juice)

salad. - mix with new potatoes, boiled eggs, strong leaves (watercress/rocket/parsley) and toss in a dressing made from mustard, oil + wine vinegar

toast topped with horseradish sauce, a layer of leaves and then some flakes of smoked mackerel

on a bed of al dente lentils with shallot / capers vinaigrette

Mash it up with salad cream and put in baked potato.

kedgeree - good idea!

WideWebWitch · 09/07/2008 15:20

I mixed some up with aoili and grated horseradish, was a lovely pate

The thing I make most with smoked mackerel is pate.

Break up a couple of fillets, some cottage cheese, some creme fraiche, lemon juice and black pepper. Whizz with blender (tho fork will do, just a bit more 'rustic')

Sorry don't have quantities - just add all ingreds till you get a taste/texture you like.

Great with oatcakes or baked potatoes

dinny · 09/07/2008 15:21

does it make a nice fish pie? how do you make it, Slur?

PinkPussyCat · 09/07/2008 15:22

ok so I took too long to type that - enough pate suggestions already!

pate eh? hmm, I have never made pate. I think the hoards may expect hot full meal tonight it being all dreary and grey and all.

Yum jacket potatoes sounds good.

I wonder if I could do pate with leftovers for lunch tomorrow....

So we're thinking puff pastry and mackerel is wrong yes? I did sort of think so.

I should save puff pastry for chicken another day.

My fish pie is lush but very plain and simple.

Sliced potatoes and boiled
soften leeks and mackerel in pan
seson
make white sauce

Now you can be sneaky and add in layer of veg, sweet potato is particularly nice

So layer of potatoes, mackerel mix, veg if desired, layer of pots. top with cheese bung in oven.
