How do you make them? And can you use crusts?

That's it really

I get a stale old loaf and grate it. crusts, whatever. then i freeze it in an ice cream tub and use however much i need.

I lightly toast stale bread then bung it in the food processor and give it a minute or two on high! Then stick in a bag in the freezer and forget its there!

Oh, it needs to be stale. That's why my crumbs ended up being like a lump of dough

How do I get it to go stale without going mouldy? I usually keep my bread in the fridge.

And what do you use it for?

Am trying to avoid throwing it away, as most weeks I'll chuck out 4 chunky crusts.

D'ya think that if I mixed them with grated cheese and a few herbs, they'd make a savoury crumble topping, or would they burn?

exactly that yes. i often mix them with grated cheese to top cauliflower cheese, or our personal favourite kid tea - baked beans, fried onions, chopped cooked bacon, all mixed up with the breadcrumb cheese mixture on top. bake for 15 mins, serve with toms and cucs for health factor!
