I've found a recipe for microwave tablet on the internet but it calls for a small can of Carnation milk.

Can anyone confirm that is is definately Carnation milk and not condensed milk before I waste 1lb of caster sugar please?

WHAT IS IT!?

DanJARMouse · 03/07/2008 17:59

its a scottish sweet - basically pure sugar but lovely!

Tablet is a very sweet, sugary substance similar to fudge but harder.

I'm in Scotland and it's the standby sweet that everyone's Granny used to make. You have to boil the ingredients, typically, sugar, condensed milk, butter and vanilla extract to a "soft ball" consistancy then beat with a wooden spoon til it grains.

All too often I don't boil mime to a high enough temperature and end up with a sort of toffee so I'm hoping that the microwave version gives a better result.

No, Carantion milk is evaporate milk still very sweet but runny. Condensed milk is the much thicker type.

Just to confuse you, Carnation do do a condensed milk!

Oooo, recipe please

PTA · 03/07/2008 18:52

The recipe says:

For a 600watt oven

1 small can Carnation milk
1lb caster sugar
2oz butter (I'm thinking unsalted)

Put all ingerdients in a big bowl and mix well. Microwave for 12mins, stirring at 4 and 8mins.

Add a few drops vanilla extract (not essence, beat well and pour into a greased tin. Cut when cold.

BUT, most tablet recipes call for condensed milk and not Carnation milk so I'm still wondering.

Has no-one on wise and wide MN made it before?
