BBQ for 20 people - What can I serve?

MummyJules · 01/07/2008 14:03

Planning on having a bbq this Saturday if the weather prevails to celebrate my old age.

Will be serving food for students/kids and family and wondered if you had any ideas?

All appreciated!

Have pittas as well as usual burger buns too for a change.

I'd cook lots of chicken legs in BBQ sauce in your oven.

Then do sausages and burgers and kebabs on the BBQ.

Some lovely salads including homemade tabbouleh, or couscous and coleslaw. Nice breads and rolls.

Fabulous desserts - I usually do pavlovas, fruit salad and either cheesecake or something chocolatey.

If there are kids you could buy lots of ice lollies or do a make your own icecream cone station with sprinkles etc.

For 20 people I would keep it simple.

Some really good sausages and some pre-cooked chicken whch you just finish off on the bbq.

Huge green salad.

If there are any veggies I also make a salad from puy lentils and feta cheese.

Baguette.

Strawberries, cream and ice cream. and home made chocolate brownies.

That is all you need.

My DP is very extravagant, so I have to tone down the bbqs and keep them simple....

  • tandoori chickn - get one of those jars and just marinate. easy on kebab sticks. if vegetarians, get quorn and marinate.
  • prawns - on bbq with a lemon.
  • nan bread - lovely on bbq
  • raitha - cucumber/yoghurt and mint

Pork Fillets: marinade them in advance in some variant of olive oil, rosemary & garlic. Allow 1 fillet for 3-4 & you'll have loads. The advantage is that they cook beautifully, are easy to keep an eye on and taste fab: lovely and moist. Then make whatever salads you want.. Also significantly cheaper than burgers/ sausages/ chicken drumsticks and healthier, less likely to burn and ,ore impressive to serve
