Cake Decorating Emergency - ComeOVeneer???

I have successfully made + iced the fruit cake for PILs Ruby wedding... am just about to start decorating. I was going to do a 'scattering' of tiny flowers using 2 shades of Squires sugar florist paste, one dark, one light pink using these

BUT

How on earth do you roll the coloured paste out? I can't use icing sugar to stop it sticking as it lightens the colour of my dark pink!

I have tried rolling it on to parchment/greaseproof paper but it was even sticking to that! I think I am going to have to scrap the whole idea if I can't figure out the solution to this

How on earth do all you sugarcrafters do it? Please Help!

Rub your board with trex to stop the sticking.

and make sure you knead it well first.

ohh and to give a bit more flair, roll the paste out quite thin and cut out your flowers then place them onto a foam pad and depress them in the middle to make them curl up a bt at the edge "cup" them so to speak, gives a better effect.

Trex? Is that lard?

The white iced cake looks so perfect I'll be gutted if I arse it up...

You could also dust the cake before you put the flowers on it, use a lustre dust, you can get one in a irridescent ruby/pinky colour (and many others) this would give a nice depth under the decoration.

Tres is lard, rub a small amount onto your board that you are rolling out onto it'll stop the sticking! honest guv!!!

iMum · 29/06/2008 15:03

trex even

PinkPussyCat · 29/06/2008 15:04

Oh you are fab iMum, I would never have thought of that in a billion years!

Also loving the 'lustre dust' idea...

Should I 'trex' my rolling pin as well?

No need to trex your equipment just the board and not to much, you can always add!
make sure tho that all equipment is very clean and dry as this matter when working with little flowers, any bit of dirt or trace of moisture will affect the tiny flowers.

post pics when you are done!!!

PinkPussyCat · 29/06/2008 15:12

Right! I shall nip out for trex and keep you posted re the results! Many thanks!

Trex is vegetable fat - don't use lard!

PinkPussyCat · 29/06/2008 15:21

OK shortcake - good job you said that!
