Need to make a dairy free cake - how to sustitute oil for butter?

Many of the friends coming to ds's party next week are dairy free so I want to make the cake dairy free. Can I just use one of my normal recipes and substitute oil for butter? And in what quantity?

Any help appreciated thanks!

It might be better to use a dairy free margarine like pure or vitalite.

Oh, good idea. I didn't think of that. Do I use the same quantity?

My dd is allergic to dairy and egg and when I bake I just use the dairy free spread (Tesco sell Pure spreads, one made from sunflower oil and one from soya). Just use same quantity.
