Is it feasible to rely solely on an air fryer and not have an oven?

We have a large everhot which is great but with the weather we have been having I don't want to add extra heat into the kitchen. Typically we turn it off between June and September and we have a small fan oven which we use instead. The fan oven is inside a cabinet (we obviously keep the doors open if we are actually using it but close the doors when we are not using it). It was a solution to the heat issue rather than something we designed as part of the kitchen when the kitchen was installed.

The fan oven was a cheap one from B&Q and its now died after 2 years. They still make them but Im a bit reluctant to buy another identical one since it was so short lived. Unfortunately it is a reduced depth oven and Im really struggling to find any other that will fit into the cabinet and allow the doors to close.

I can't just take the doors off the cabinet. Its a floor to ceiling cabinet and the kitchen was expensive.

Has anyone managed without an oven by using one of the large air fryers? We have a very small air fryer that we use occasionally if it's just me and DH at home. We now have an adult child back from uni for a couple of years (and another home during uni holidays) so I'd need to buy a big one like the ninja flexi or the large breville one.

Is it really feasible to have only the air fryer (bearing in mind we don't do that many full roasts during the summer months anyway and come mid september I'll switch on the everhot again).

I think you’d need a microwave and a hob long term.

I only turn my oven on once or twice a year. I think it depends how you cook really.

If I do a big meal for several people, I use the oven. But it's due to the amount and type of food I cook then. For me on my own an air fryer is perfectly fine. I prefer the air fryer over the oven.

Our oven broke over a year ago, and we have gotten by with just the air fryer and the grill part of the oven that still works.
Christmas Day - we had to plan carefully, but other than that it’s been ok.
I still plan on mending the main oven though. So it’s not a permanent solution. (Over a year though 😆)

Sorry, I should have said, we do have a microwave and we also have a hob since the everhot has both a hot plate (turned off) and an induction side which we can use without turning the storage oven.

We use the oven only when something doesn't fit in air fryer. For example pizzas or big roast days like Christmas.

I only ever use my oven for pizza nowadays. Everything else is cooked in the air fryer, it’s surprisingly easy to cook a roast in it, too. I could quite easily live without an oven.

A big air fryer and a hob and you’ll be fine. The only thing I can think of you wouldn’t be able to have is frozen pizza. You can even do a roast in an air fryer if you want to.

We only use our oven for things like pizza now (although granted you could slice it in half to fit in the air fryer). We don't have a microwave, just the air fryer and hob. A good sized air fryer will be fine, I think ours is about 9 litres and has 2 drawers. A good quality air fryer makes all the difference too. We have a ninja which is fab.

I have a combi oven/airfryer/microwave plus a stand alone ninja airfryer, ive not used my main oven since Christmas! Do you have a hob ?

We don’t use our oven/grill for a lot.
Rarely a pizza.
Cheese on toast.
Garlic bread and sometimes a ready meal.

We can do almost anything else in our air fryer. I wouldn’t do a roast because the potatoes are never good enough.

We are 2 adults and 1 toddler at home.

Modest sized air fryer. We haven't used either it or the oven for over 2 months (live in London - too hot down here!)

Before that we would use the oven for batch cooking, roast or pizza. Otherwise always air fryer

We do. Our oven broke a few years ago and we haven’t replaced it. We have a big air fryer with 2 drawers, and a hob and microwave. It’s unusual that we can’t cook something between them.

It really depends on how you cook and what you like to eat. We have an air fryer but it’s only my adult daughter that uses it for stuff like chips, nuggets, warming up stuff etc when she needs something quick. I am not a fan of it as I like slow roasted stuff, even jacket potatoes I like done for a few mins in the microwave and then in the proper oven for 45 mins or so. If I do them in the air fryer they just taste weird to me. I also like to slow roast potatoes for roast dinners, veg etc etc. I couldn’t be without my proper oven.

I got the Ninja Flip when replacing my kitchen. You can fit in a whole pizza & have only used my oven on the odd occasion since. It doesn’t generate a lot of heat either

I use the bake function on mine for baked potatoes I micro first then turn temp on airfryer down and bake for 30/40 minutes i think it tastes just as good as an oven baked potato.

Absolutely fine for the summer, if you've got a hob, a microwave and an air fryer, then you can definitely live without oven for a few weeks. Standard Aga procedure!

I have one of those ninjas that do all sorts, a 9 in 1 maybe. Rarely use the oven.

Eg made jambalaya yesterday, did the chicken first on bake, then did the sausages on airfry. Did the rice in a microwave rice cooker with the veggies chopped in and added the stock.

Combined it all then in the Ninja pot and cooked for a few minutes on speedi to ensure all was hot.

Easy, and minimal washing up too.

I can cook everything in the air fryer. Roasts, pizzas (yes, have to cut them in 1/2), homemade chips, roasties, jacket potatoes, baking.

The only thing I haven't tried it for yet is a cake. But I haven't wanted to bake a cake in years so...

It bakes biscuits/cookies fine. Does a gorgeous melt in the middle chocolate pudding/individual choc puds. I particularly like to make a batch of biscuit/cookie dough and then just cook a few at a time when we want them (they take 3 or 4 minutes mostly) and then they're always warm and fresh. GREAT for kids.

Agree. I think it's about tweaking to see what works best.

Very rare I use the actual oven - the occasional bit of baking and for pizza, which doesn't fit in the air fryer. Other than that I almost solely use the air fryer, so I think it's feasible!

Yes just play about with them, see what works,

I cant do a sunday roast for 4 in my air fryer, or oven pizzas. So it depends how often those feature as summer meals when your ever hot thing is off.

Ive also never done baked rice dishes in the airfryer which we have a lot but I suspect I could for 2 but not 4.

i think 2 id think you'd manage most things during the hot months but 4 youd have to think carefully. Eg we are having chips so need to fry meat, we are baking salmon so need to have it with mash.

We actually have a gas bbq that we have a spitroasst thing on in summer, or butterfly lamb and stick on the grill

There’s just me DH / DD here now and like you I don’t want the heat from our big oven so I’ve been using the airfryer/ microwave/hob and slow cooker for weeks

I think I only will use the big oven when family come or Christmas.

i often do a 1.8 kg chicken in it and it makes the best roast potatoes. It bakes so good for cookies and cakes

edit to add, this one is big, but doesn’t take a big pizza, I cut them in half and use 2 shelves. I use it just like I do the oven tbh, I have a selection of Pyrex dishes which fit well for roasting a chicken etc. you do need to plan, I find I can do a chicken then lift out to rest, wrap it well and it’s fine while you cook the potatoes which don’t take so long in the airfryer.

If you're talking about being without it between June and September only (i.e. the hot months) then I think I could pretty easily get by with a good sized air fryer plus hob and microwave. In our house the oven is mostly used for roasts (which we don't really go for in summer) and slow-cooked casseroles (ditto) plus pizza which is generally too small to fit in the air-fryer we have but which we don't eat enough of to justify the cost of a separate oven.

Right I'm ordering a Ninja Flexi and we will see how it goes...
