something to make a change from Bucks Fizz/Kir Royale (and not Bloody Mary) for a celebration brunch. Any new ideas please?

No! How about Bellinis? Fresh peaches, pureed with a bit of sugar and a squeeze of lemon and then topped up with prosecco. DELICIOUS.
And you can do a variation with strawberries that is lovely too.

I must add that a decent bloody mary is one of the best drinks in the world and I LOVE seeing them at a brunch party. Any reason why you don't want them there?

RubySlippers · 25/06/2008 17:43

bellinis - yum

i find a martini at lunch time is very agreeable

also, and not sure if this not cocktaily enough, but a tall glass of Pimms is very nice IMO

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/06/2008 17:44

Oh yes a good bloody mary is always fab.

But keep the ice and spice seperate, some like them iced some don't.

RubySlippers · 25/06/2008 17:45

i have to also confess a fondness for bloody marys

with a stick of celery stuck in the glass too

Carmenere · 25/06/2008 17:45

Oh yes Pimms is a good idea as it is relatively light.

RubySlippers · 25/06/2008 17:46

harvey wallbanger - orange juice based so also good for brunch

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/06/2008 17:47

Elderflower cordial with vodka and prossecco is nice.

lilolilmanchester · 25/06/2008 17:49

great ideas. The person I'm organising this for doesn't like bloody mary's so would seem a bit selfish to serve something she doesn't like! It's more breakfast time than lunch time so like the idea of something fruity and light.

I have never met anyone who didn't love bellinis.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/06/2008 17:52

I always thought bellinnis were the tiny pancakes with crap on them?

Carmenere · 25/06/2008 17:54

They are blinis, also good for brunch

lilolilmanchester · 25/06/2008 17:56

a Bellini and Blini brunch... has a bit of a ring to it!!

May slightly depend on what you are planning to serve with the drinks though;

Pimms - good as above - put in lots of fruit though (strawberies and blueberries work well) - plus of course the mint!!

Pomme Pomme - apple juice & apple schnaps (get some from Lidl)

Fragonard - strawberry version of bellini - strawberries, prosseco (lidl) and if you have it creme de fraise (Super U - france)

Sangria - alternative to Pimms

Non-alcholic - ginger beer / fresh lemonade as examples

enjoy!!

Cosmos! You'll be pissed after one if they're good, but they're bloody good when they are, iyswim .
