Hotel Chocolat - is it just me, or is the chocolate not that good????

received a beautiful gift box of chocs. Look fab. But the chocolate tastes a bit "cheap". I'm not a chocolate snob, but compared to Thorntons/Cadbury's it tastes a bit fatty. It's a shame cos everything looks so fab I thought it had solved years of gift problems. But not that impressed with the quality & taste of the chocolate. Anyone else agree?

Ooh what was his name rubberduck? (actually, don't tell me lol)

They are lovely and friendly, but training isn't always the greatest because they are overstretched.

They have just launched in America but with no extra staff, so the same few people on the phones have to deal with all the american orders too. It's ridiculous.

mel1981 · 22/06/2008 22:28

I cant stand them....every year at xmas we get given a box and pass them on to someone who will appreicate them, feel bad to tell my uncle we dont like them.

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/06/2008 22:31

Come on, OMDB - spill. What is your involvement?

I used to work at an agency that specialised in new product development, and CAdbury was one of our clients, so I'm well used to the hardship of tasting chocolate.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 22/06/2008 22:36

Blimey- I must be a real chocolate pleb cos I love the stuff! BIL got me loads of hotel chocolat stuff for xmas and it was divine. My favorite chocolates I have ever had in my whole life are the 'white and light' box - I keep hinting to dh that I need some more but he doesn't seem to be getting the hint

ivykaty44 · 22/06/2008 22:36

I like yummy

funnypeculiar · 22/06/2008 22:42

BIWI, we lead parallel lives - you're a quallie too, right? Masterfoods confectionery were my major client at my last agency (NPD/brand stuff)...

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/06/2008 22:57

Ooh - who did you work for? I was at CLK (now Corporate Edge)

RubberDuck · 23/06/2008 08:03

I won't tell you Doesn't seem particularly fair, especially on an internet forum, lol. And I'm sure it was just because they were new.

I went to uni in Birmingham and one of the student areas is Bournville. Used to hate visiting there - the air permanently smelled of chocolate (Cadbury factories) and I would lose all desire for the stuff within minutes.

hockeypuck · 23/06/2008 08:10

Right maybe I need to move to Bourneville to tackle my chocolate addiction.

I must admit my first experience of HC was awesome. I got a couple of mini slabs of praline cookie something which was divine - and then swiftly discontinued

Last month I invested in a sleekster box, half price but still expensive and not nearly as good as I had hoped. Much more oily and less tasty. Much preferred the M&S Swiss collection which was much cheaper.

RubberDuck · 23/06/2008 08:26

Nooooo don't move there, honest. It's gutting to be that close to a chocolate factory and not fancy any of it.

funnypeculiar · 23/06/2008 09:14

Directions ... logo is a pointer dogt which is all anyone seems to know about them. I know CLK, but don't thyink I have any mates there

alibubbles · 23/06/2008 10:09

HC have turned over £40 million in the last three years from 27 stores and are hoping to expand with another 10 stores in the next 12 months, and eventually 100. ( yesterday's Sunday Mail) They are looking for a Marketing director to "bring some discipline" to the business! ( Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me)

JodieG1 · 23/06/2008 10:24

I love their chocolate and prefer it over any other. I've never seen the attraction of green and blacks personally, tastes awful to me.

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/06/2008 11:42

Even if you did know anyone, chances are I wouldn't, FP - I left there in 1994 to go freelance.

Agree... poor quality - occasional good flavours

And single estate very dark bars were good if they still do them?
