Savoury breakfast for weightloss ideas BUT

NoCereal · 27/02/2026 15:13

I can’t eat eggs, tomatoes or mushrooms.

I’m trying to lose weight and have been advised that regularly skipping breakfast for 30odd years hasn’t been very good for me and to try breakfast daily.
I just don’t know what to eat. My usual first foods don’t appeal first thing in the morning.

Does it have to be savoury?

TheSmallAssassin · 27/02/2026 15:14

Who has advised you that skipping breakfast isn't good for you?

Catisheavyonmylap · 27/02/2026 15:17

I’m a veggie and often have leftovers for breakfast - some sort of bean, roasted Mediterranean veg type dish, anything that I didnt finish the day before, normally with a side of guacamole.

Does it have to be savoury?

Yes. The only things I like which aren’t savoury aren’t really conducive with losing weight.

Porridge is your friend. It's quick, it's simple and there is no end of possibilities.

I'd also recommend rice cakes with Skyr on them.

Who has advised you that skipping breakfast isn't good for you?

I’ve been seeing a nurse who has advised this.

I can’t eat it, it’s the texture my body won’t swallow it.

That’s what I have been eating at about 11:30/12 but I don’t fancy it first thing.

Have you tried using bulgar wheat instead of oats. It's softer, smaller and might be easier for you to tolerate.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/02/2026 15:21

I eat cottage cheese and ham rolls - basically roll ham around Longley farm cottage cheese - I also eat Greek yoghurt with muesli - maybe not savoury though - to be a honest a low fat Boursin cheese and ham roll isn’t that calorific!!

fairlygoodmother · 27/02/2026 15:21

Do you want savoury options because you prefer non sweet flavours in the morning, or to avoid added sugar?

I like cottage cheese, which I eat either with black beans and chilli flakes, or with fruit.

Greek yogurt isn’t sweet in itself, you could sprinkle with nuts and seeds.

Tofu scramble with onions/vegetables.

blackcatclub25 · 27/02/2026 15:21

What would you want to eat first thing, what appeals? Just for an idea of what kind of stuff you like

NoCereal · 27/02/2026 15:22

I admit I am quite picky with foods. I had what would be known today as ARFID as a child. I ate toast mashed potatoes, peas and chicken almost exclusively for about four years.

Those low fat turkey rashers in a toasted sandwich.

Norfolklass2428 · 27/02/2026 15:23

I don't eat eggs either.

If I want a savoury breakfast I have scrambled tofu. Is that a possibility for you? Add a pinch or chilli, turmeric and black pepper and mix with a little greek yoghurt or mayo.
Toast is optional it is also nice on vegetable rice cakes.

I like bulgar wheat. I usually cook it in chicken stock. So yes that might work.

Unsweetened peanut butter on wholemeal toast plus a piece of fruit? Although I think the advice that you have to eat breakfast is outdated.

fairlygoodmother · 27/02/2026 15:27

Do you have an allergy to eggs or just dislike the flavour/texture? Can you eat them baked in cakes etc?

I ask because there are low calorie high protein options for basically chocolate cake using protein powder, cocoa powder, eggs and greek yogurt with minimal sugar. If this is something you’d like.

Aside from the things I like not being good for weightloss, pancakes for example. Many things make me feel really sick first thing. Most cold things like Greek yogurt for example even though I will happily eat it later in the day. I could try cottage cheese though.
Most raw fruits make me have a mild but unpleasant allergic reaction so I have to avoid those.

I love peanut butter but DC are allergic. I could try almond butter though.

I do seeded bagel thin with chicken/turkey sausages or bacon.
128 calories for bagel from Lidl and 54 per chicken sausage.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 27/02/2026 15:29

greek yoghurt

Mithral · 27/02/2026 15:30

Chia pudding? Doesn't need to be sweet. That might be a bad texture for you if you don't like porridge though.

Bulgar wheat cooked in chicken stock actually sounds like a pretty good option. You could put some veg in it too if you want to be healthier.

NormasArse · 27/02/2026 15:30

Can you eat eggs in baked goods?

ForLoveNotMoney · 27/02/2026 15:30

If you don't want breakfast, don't eat it?
