What is your household income if you shop at Ocado?

I appreciate there will be wider context to this if you wanted to share such as number of people in your home, but I’m just curious. I want to switch to Ocado, friend thinks it’s for “rich” households. I currently have a weekly budget of £120 for family of 3/4 (I say 3 or 4 because due to lifestyle we are often only down to 3 people!) and this does not need to include lunches in the week or cleaning stuff (when it’s school holidays I increase the budget for lunches). Friend thinks you need a £200 p/w budget.

(just realised I’ve posted this in the completely wrong section lol…have asked for it to be moved)

Depends on what you buy. If you stick to the cheaper basics it’s not much more expensive than Sainsburys. If you’re buying all the fancy brands it blows up your budget quickly!

TommorrowsToday · 15/02/2026 16:35

We shop from Ocado and per week it costs anywhere between £85 and £180. Probably averages out at £130.

But it includes at least some lunches and all cleaning products.

Overthebow · 15/02/2026 16:36

I couldn’t do a weekly shop from Ocado for £120. We often shop in Lidl and spend £140 a week but that includes nappies and lunches. We could do Lidl without those for £120, but we sometimes shop Ocado too and spend more like £180.

@OcadoQT are you a journalist? You’re asking what people’s household income is without stating what yours is! Cheeky

fatphalange · 15/02/2026 16:38

Quite low in Mumsnet terms but I use Ocado probably every month- why wouldn’t I?

Justcallmedaffodil · 15/02/2026 16:38

We’re a household of 2 adults, 1 (7yo) DC and generally spend £200-£230 per week at Ocado, however we don’t shop particularly carefully (e.g. checking prices) and buy organic wherever it’s available. I have no doubt we could do a shop for £120 if needs be.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/02/2026 16:39

Just me and the cats. Ocado delivery fortnightly and I spend around £100 - £120. Mainly on the cats.
it’s a penny more per item that I buy than if I shopped at b&m/home bargains and Aldi. with delivery being £1:50 it’s so much easier than battling in the shops and driving/walking through town in this weather.

PuzzlingRecluse · 15/02/2026 16:40

lol I shop at Ocado, single mum here, I spend £40-70 per week, love that they price match against Tesco, and deliver in bags (which they recycle the following week)

Sorry I think I changed my mind from writing the title to writing my post, I started thinking it was household income I was asking, then realised it was whether my food budget was enough to allow was the more useful question hence gave that instead!

Meant to add my shop includes all meals & cleaning things!

Depressionsession · 15/02/2026 16:45

I’ve just switched from Sainsbury’s and find it about £10 more per week with Ocado on like for like.

TheChosenTwo · 15/02/2026 16:46

I’ve just switched back to ocado from Tesco, used ocado for about 10 years until they merged with M&S but have gone back now because of Tesco’s non-availability of organic chicken!
in the 4 shops I’ve done I’ve spent around £50 per week more but it’s because I’ve been trying lots of new things.
My household income is irrelevant I think?

KitchenQuestion · 15/02/2026 16:46

I won’t share household income, but I don’t find Ocado any more expensive than when we used to shop in store in Tescos or Sainsbury’s. If we exclude lunches and cleaning products, our weekly shop comes to around £70-80. That’s for 2 adults and a small child (plus cat litter). I’ve certainly never spent anywhere near £200 and can’t imagine I would be spending £120 extra if we did have more/older children.

Obviously you can spend a fortune on the fancy brands there. They have a great range of Free From food, but it is pricey.

Interesting, it’s Sainsbury’s I would be moving away from.

Less than £25,000. I get the basics every fortnight.
It's no more expensive than anywhere else these days unless you get the fancy stuff. There's always good flash offers on meat etc.

LittleBearPad · 15/02/2026 16:51

I spend £200 or so a week for four of us and this doesn’t include lunches for 3 (school lunches / DH buys lunch.

It could be considerably less if I thought about it, meal planned etc and bought own brand etc.

Sesma · 15/02/2026 16:57

I sometimes shop at Ocado, I also shop at Waitrose, M&S and Asda in person. They are similar to Waitrose I suppose, they have offers, but you could spend a fortune if you wanted. There is the opportunity to spend a lot like Waitrose but you don't have to. We are retired with a middling income for retired people.

BeGentleMentor · 15/02/2026 17:00

55k single person household.

I spend about £75 every fortnight and take advantage of the flash sales so for every £75 i probably get £115 worth of produce and eat like a King.

I get the occasional Tesco delivery for cleaning products and cheaper things like supernoodles, packet pasta and the like.

Not sure the flash sales would work for a family as they don't tend to be larger quantities of things.

I thought Ocado was for the wealthy which I'm not and only started there as there was an offer on for new customers, I think £20 off over a shop of £80?

But I've stayed with them because of the flash sales and unlike Tesco, I hardly ever have substitutions or unavailable items and their delivery drivers are much more professional.

I've had delivery drivers from Tesco who were unpleasant or even intimidating.

Not had one Ocado driver in 3 years that wasn't professional and actually pleasant.

QuickBlueKoala · 15/02/2026 17:00

Ocado is the only delivery service that delivers what you ordered. All the others, you’re lucky if you get half your order.
So its Ocado, or big shopping trips with teo SENds kids in tow. Ocado it is.

ChubbyPuffling · 15/02/2026 17:01

I shop at tesco most weeks, maybe once a month or once every 2 months I do an ocado shop.
But it turns out to be very "expensive" at first view. Though it isn't really... dishwasher tabs in a bloomin big bag of over 100 are cheaper per tab than at tesco. Big slabs of San pellegrino likewise. Bag of laundry capsules.Bag of 400 teabags. Dog food, denta sticks etc...If I need cleaning products, or "party size" multipacks etc, I onlineshop there.

Ocados own milk, meat and fresh veg are great, reasonably cheap with long dates.

Usually get 2 or 3 m&s treats. Meat pie, garlic balls etc.

They deliver in bags. Bags that make great bin liners.

My budget almost doubles on an ocado week. Normally £130, ocado £200+
BUT I buy different things on an ocado week, so can't really compare.

Sgreenpy · 15/02/2026 17:04

I shop at Ocado, Morrisons and Sainsbury's online and pick up bits in Aldi in person.
You get absolutely loads of offers of money off and free delivery from Ocado.
This year, I've already had about £50 of money off.
When I first joined it was 20% off your first shop then free delivery for 3 months.
If I want a shop thats 'M&S' heavy I use Ocado.
Just give it a try.

jay55 · 15/02/2026 17:05

I use Ocado because I had a sore back and couldn’t deal with bagging my stuff at the door, and Ocado still comes in bags. It’s way more expensive for me as a single person than Sainsbury’s but I’m saving on not buying lunch for work any more so I justify it to myself.
And the flash sales at checkout get me some great stuff sometimes.

Nottogetapenny · 15/02/2026 17:06

I shop at Ocado and don’t find them anymore expensive than other supermarkets. I Like that I can get M&S products. I find that Ocado branded products are of good quality and at a good price. I buy branded products and prices are the same as other supermarkets.

Tesco are terrible for unavailable items and substitutions.

But I even tried Waitrose between Xmas and New Year as wanted to try some of their NY seasonal items.

5 out of 13 items substitutions and not equivaleht ones either. I thought Waitrose was the supermarket option for the wealthy so expected exceptional food and service but it wasn't the case.
