Does anyone know how to cook jacket potatoes on a chimnea without burning the skins?

That's about it really

DH and I can both remember having jacket spuds cooked on the fire on bonfire night as kids but we've tried wrapping them in (lots of) foil and we burn the skins every time. The potato inside is gorgeous though!

We'd really appreciate any tips

Very funny cod they don't taste as nice in a microwave though do they??

ggirl we like slightly burnt skins but these are really, really rock hard and black - totally inedible

mankymummy that sounds like a good idea, we'll try that thank you have to buy some big (cheap!) tins of beans and keep the empties

We don't have a chimnea, but if we're barbecuing we start them in the oven and finish them on the barbecue.
