Finger food ideas for DD 8mo PLEASE!!

I started weaning DD at 6 months, mainly mashed cooked fruit/veg to start with/ baby cereals etc but just lately she has decided she just wants finger foods, weetabix and chopped spag bog!

The thing is I think shes bored with fruit/veg and wondered if anyone had any ideas for finger foods she may like- baby fish cakes, chicken fingers etc.

Shes very good at picking up even quite small things.

To be honest I'm feeling a bit lost this time around. With DD1 it was purees, mash then lumps but going practically straight onto finger foods I'm feeling like I just keep throwing her scraps of food to try!

Oh, and if anyone wants a freezer full of mashed veg you're welcome to it!!

Oh my son did this at 7 months - I had to become very inventive. I borrowed an anabel karmel book from library and started to try out things:

He has now at 11mo:

omlettes with veg
vegetable sausgaes (take 10 minutes)
fish cakes
prawns and veg
pasta and sauce (only just started eating this)
Eggy bread
shreddies
sandwiches

and more....

cheese
broccoli spears (steamed)
carrot sticks (steamed)
falafel (good snack food if you're out and about)
pitta bread
cheese on toast (cut into fingers)

oh and many people now start weaning on finger foods, so your DD isn;t strange! DS never got on with purees either. Remember 'food is for fun until they're one' so let her play around with stuff to see what she likes.

toast fingers dipped in egg
bread sticks in hummous or stuff
rice cakes
pasta shapes cooked then cooled
rice to pick up and eat

phew - good luck!

Thanks everyone- you've certainly given me plenty of ideas. I've got the A.Karmel book from DD1 so I'll have a look in there.

Is it just seafood, honey, soft cooked eggs they cant have until 12 months?

Tried talking to my HV about things and he said- you give them purees from 6 months so they won't be chewing food til at least 10 months. Love to show him DD chomping on asparagus !!Silly arse.

ess, have a look here... www.babyledweaning.com

it's practically normal these days.
have a think about what you eat already tbh, then think about how you can make it easier to pick up, basically give the baby a shot at it first before you decide it won't be possible. then you're only cooking once for the family.
