I always default to cottage pie because it's filling, easy to make and everyone likes it.

Lasagne. Similar reasons to you really, everyone enjoys it and it keeps and reheats well.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 20/01/2026 16:49

Probably dinner

Xatz63 · 20/01/2026 16:57

I do chilli a lot it can go with lots of things so find it easy

GiantTeddyIsTired · 20/01/2026 16:59

We have steak every Friday, so probably that - because it's quick and easy, tasty, chips come from the freezer, mushrooms and veggies depending on what I bought that week, and it's all on the table within 20 mins (especially if I've had it in the sous vide machine for a couple of hours so it just needs searing)

That or meatballs - and meatballs because I make a mega batch every now and then, put it in little single portion pots and then I can just defrost them when I don't want to think about cooking.

Londonmummy66 · 20/01/2026 17:01

Like you cottage pie as I always have bolognese and mash in the freezer (and often a tin of potatoes in the cupboard so it is a quick and easy meal - just bung some peas or beans in with the mince, top with potato and breadcrumbs and its good to go. My other go to is chicken breasts or thigh fillets cooked in beer or cider with garlic bread and salad but that is a more summery thing.

hahagogomomo · 20/01/2026 17:01

Make Caesar salad most weeks but a vary the topping eg chicken, steak, halloumi, anchovies (fresh). Otherwise I rarely repeat in a month

Thedogswhiskers · 20/01/2026 17:04

A salmon/broccoli/pasta thing as everyone eats it

EwwSprouts · 20/01/2026 17:05

Pork belly in a slow cooker on a base of ratatouille (with red wine). Get a lean pork belly and it comes out tasty pulled pork, no waste. Easy and cooks while I'm at work. Ensures we eat different vegetables such as aubergine & courgette. Rice day one and leftovers on jacket potato usually.

Holdonforsummer · 20/01/2026 17:09

Sausage stew - sausages cut in half, plus fried onions, carrots, two tins of tomorrows and one ton of haricot beans all chucked in a casserole dish with a mug of stock and cooked for 40 mins. Serve with rice/grains/potatoes. Even my little nieces love it.

Secretseverywhere · 20/01/2026 17:10

Egg fried rice as kids really like it s as I’d it’s a good way of using up leftover meat/ veg.

FancyCatSlave · 20/01/2026 17:10

Sausage and mash and chicken and bacon pasta - DD’s 2 favourites.

devildeepbluesea · 20/01/2026 17:13

Roast chicken. It’s just me and DD, and it will genuinely feed us for half the week. Won’t always have a roast dinner, sometimes we’ll have it with Greek salad and flatbreads, others with coleslaw andjavket
spuds. Next day I’ll strip it down and make sandwiches, pasta and/or curry,
and stock with the carcass.

Notmymarmosets · 20/01/2026 17:28

Roast of some sort.

GravyBoatWars · 20/01/2026 17:39

Tacos/taco bowls, because they're easy for everyone in our extra-large family to customize and provide useful leftovers (including some for the freezer) when the meat/beans/rice/grilled veg are made in bulk.

homemadepopcorn · 20/01/2026 17:48

Jacket potato with beans and cheese, cause it’s my favourite

Theyreeatingthedogs · 20/01/2026 17:58

Liver and onions every week.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/01/2026 18:03

Many meals are variarions on a theme. Similar method, variable ingredients.

Toss up between:

Spag bol
Chilli con
Curried chicken
Grilled salmon
Steak/chops

yeesh · 20/01/2026 18:07

Curry we have at least once a week, I make all styles through so it’s never the same curry. Easy and good for leftovers

cheeseonsofa · 20/01/2026 18:08

Chicken and Broccoli Lasagne.
I roast a chicken, half goes in and the other half for rolls/ salads.
I uses the chicken juices in the lasagne, make a white sauce/ roux and some fancy chicken seasoning, mushrooms, cream , broccoli, chicken breast, cheese
Absolutely gorgeous, one pot and freezes brilliantly .

Idontspeakgermansorry · 20/01/2026 18:12

Stir fry. I love stir fry.

lemoncrisp · 20/01/2026 18:12

Chicken in a bag every week. Feeds 4 of us if DD and dsil join us. Cold chicken left overs for lunches if just 2 of us.
Ring the changes with roast veggies or mexican rice or warm salads (eg beetroot feta and walnut) or stir-fry veg and noodles.

DelphiniumBlue · 20/01/2026 18:17
  1. Spag bol - any of us can make it and we all do it slightly differently
  2. Chick pea curry , sometimes with halloumi
  3. Vegetable soup - any veg, depending on what needs using up.
cinquanta · 20/01/2026 18:20

Full cooked breakfast because it’s the only meal I cook regularly. Once a week.

Meadowfinch · 20/01/2026 18:35

Peppers stuffed with herby sausage meat, with garlic.bread. DS loves it.

Alternatively hake & chorizo risotto, or spaghetti meatballs.

Zippedydodah · 20/01/2026 18:39

Variations of using mince - Spag Bol, cottage pie, savoury mince etc served with mash/jacket/wedges etc
Roast pork a couple of times a month, lots of options for leftovers.
Occasionally a chicken.
