Recipe from What Not to Eat last night?

Did anyone catch the recipe for the pasta that Tim Spector made last night on What Not to Eat? It looked really nice and we're trying to eat healthier, we have a habit of resorting to processed food due to lack of ideas.

I thought they sounded great. Here's the recipe
Pecan chocolate cookies

Brilliant thanks going to try them tomorrow

"Nut crumb receipe i often use

  • ½ cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup raw cashews
  • ¼ tsp fresh cracked pepper
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp sweet smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne
  • â…› tsp chili powder And blitz"

Are you kidding me?
It was listed as one thing, giving the impression you could just buy it rather than use 7 more ingredients.

You don’t buy it; you make it. If you google Boosting Bouillon Tim Spector you’ll see it’s basically sunflower seeds, chilli flakes, nutritional yeast whizzed up together. Use instead of stock cubes.

(But no, I don’t know where to get nutritional yeast!)

nutritional yeast can be bought from supermarkets - it's called Boost and is brilliant for adding flavour.

notacooldad · 14/01/2026 22:38

I particularly liked the bit where they told us msg is only bad because it makes bad things taste good
I use MSG in my cooking at home.
A small amount can make a huge difference to taste and as its home cooking with no other additives im fine with that.

As I posted upthread, my guess is that the recipe was from a book. Common practice when trying to promote a book or TV programme to get a paper or magazine to publish an extract. Unfortunately the newspaper didn't bother to explain the nut crumb etc.

notacooldad · 14/01/2026 22:41

I should watch the programme, I know but unless you're vegan or allergic, why avoid eggs? Nutritious, cheaper than flaxseed, much easier to get hold of, versatile. I always have eggs in,

Theres nothing wrong with eggs. The receipe was just showing a way of adding more fibre into your diet.

I know I can get it in health food shops, but not in my local supermarket.

Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose all have Engevita nutritional yeast flakes, made by Marigold and usually near the bouillon powder and stock cubes etc.

I’ve joined from a thread I made this morning.

I have nutritional yeast as DS is a vegan. I wouldn’t buy it just for this though. Cheese would work just as well better.
DS is also gluten free so has pasta shells. I’ve never seen orecchiette anywhere.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/02/2026 10:05

Ocado stocks orecchiette. We have an Italian deli not too far away and I expect they'd have them too. Any pasta shape would do, though, at a pinch. Conchiglie might be the most similar.

Weird comment! It’s a perfectly decent plate of food with loads of plants in

It was in the context of having inflammatory gut disease. Possibly a bit niche, admittedly!

I agree it is probably, to use the MN classic phrase, ‘delicious and nutritious’.

You can buy it in most supermarkets like Asda or Sainsburys and I have bought it in Aldi or Lidl at some point.

You can spot the Londoners on this thread, who probably live spitting distance from a Waitrose and a posh deli. We’ve got an Aldi, a Tesco Express or a Londis. We’re not sourcing any orecchiette here, whatever the hell that is.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/02/2026 18:08

Pasta shapes in the shape of an ear, which is why I suggested conchiglie (shells) as an alternative. I believe Ocado delivers to most of the country and Italian delis are not restricted to London either.

No one is going to sign up to Ocardo just to get a specific pasta shape.
I don’t think his recipes are up to much anyway.

I saw his cookies. They looked dry and dusty.

I’ve just made choux buns. They have no sugar, much less butter than cake and are mostly water and flour. Bit of cream inside Much nicer, less calories and all British produce to support our farmers.

I live in one of the most deprived towns in the uk. Its right up there in the top 3 in the UK.
I can assure people we are are able to Orecchiette in poor towns.

Enrichetta · 04/02/2026 20:48

Or just use Fusilli… or any other pasta shape…

squirrelnutkins1 · 04/02/2026 21:34

Has anyone found the aubergine, chickpea, halloumi recipe? Looked lush 😊

Tigershark67 · 08/02/2026 18:35

It was ok it needed a clove or 2 of garlic in it as well. It has more than double the recommended amount of walnuts you should eat in a day.
