Recipe from What Not to Eat last night?

Did anyone catch the recipe for the pasta that Tim Spector made last night on What Not to Eat? It looked really nice and we're trying to eat healthier, we have a habit of resorting to processed food due to lack of ideas.

You don’t buy it; you make it. If you google Boosting Bouillon Tim Spector you’ll see it’s basically sunflower seeds, chilli flakes, nutritional yeast whizzed up together. Use instead of stock cubes.

(But no, I don’t know where to get nutritional yeast!)

ocado, amazon health food stores and websites. its also called nooch. Its supposed to make things taste cheesy/umami fied but I find you need to add a shedload to get any flavour at all.

AutumnTheCrow · 13/01/2026 21:35

We bought a nutritional yeast called Engevita.

Some supermarket branches sell it, but not all. Same with mushroom ketchup.

FaceDownInAPuddle · 13/01/2026 21:36

I'm more interested in the pot noodle bath! Please explain 🙏

Perfect28 · 13/01/2026 21:37

Watched this and really wish they would feature a family that's a bit less extreme. Surely most of us are somewhere in-between existing on pot noodles and McDonald's and cooking food from scratch.

I particularly liked the bit where they told us msg is only bad because it makes bad things taste good.

I think that's only true if you can't tolerate it in larger amounts. I am ok with "umami foods"but stuff which adds additional msg (looking at YOU oxo cubes) gives me a bad aftertaste and a sicky feeling. Its my experience that bad things taste good without any help!!

Doesn't look that simple to me. Nut crumb and boosting Bouillon are both ingredients I'd have a hard time finding. Plus only two minutes of cooking of the broccoli wouldn't be enough for me. I'm interested in trying it though, hoping it can be done with a stick blender rather than a food processor.

Looks fairly straightforward to me, I think the nut crumb is just smashed up walnuts and if you don't have that specific bouillon just use marigold bouillon. Its weird though, I know what your saying about the broccoli being undercooked but often in dishes like this it goes mushy very quickly, I wouldn't do it more than about 4 minutes. Your stick blender should be fine.

Anyone get the flaxseed and pecan chocolate biscuits from tonight?

"This is a basic but delicious recipe."

Anything with ingredients that can't be found in your local supermarket or that have to be cooked in advance is not a basic recipe.

This..a million times this.

I'm not going to order rare ingredients or drive miles to get them.
Tell me how to eat well easily.

Looking forward to trying both of these recipes.
Do you think the Swiss Bouillon is the one he means/you can use?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/01/2026 06:28

What's supposed to be healthy about that cookie recipe? I'm sure they're nice but sugar, chocolate, fat and nuts is a winning combination.

notwhereitsat · 14/01/2026 08:29

I think he said there was a lot less sugar in them than shop bought biscuits and flax seed instead of eggs and ground almonds instead of flour.

Yes, there is: nut crumb, boosting Bouillon, nutritional yeast.

You can buy nutritional yeast in supermarkets, H & B or from Amazon, and use that instead of the bouillon. Nut crumb is just nuts/seeds made into crumbs like breadcrumbs are.

I can't bear Tim Spector, but this isn't a difficult dish to source ingredients for.

That would absolutely do my guts in.

Weird comment! It’s a perfectly decent plate of food with loads of plants in

The program is trying to move people away from UPFs, therefore yes there is sugar but this is better for you than the ultra processed biscuits that people have. He acknowledged that a sweet treat with a cuppa is enjoyable and was providing an alternative to UPFs, it contains sugar but also lots of fibre and healthy fats.

The fat and protein in almonds and pecan nuts massive slows down the blood sugar spike to the point that it doesn’t cause an insulin burst

You’re aiming to reduce your insulin resistance

I am very off the wagon sadly but I had to learn all this while I had gestational diabetes

FishPie2 · 14/01/2026 08:50

Grape Tree shop sells all those ingredients.
I don't like the smug Tim Spector but I think the lady Dr on there is well worth putting up with him for.
The couple last night did amazingly well and if I had been confronted with all those glasses of wine it would have frightened me into giving it up.a

I should watch the programme, I know but unless you're vegan or allergic, why avoid eggs? Nutritious, cheaper than flaxseed, much easier to get hold of, versatile. I always have eggs in. Thinking about the recipe, yes, no UPFs, and tiny portion size. I imagine that's one of the lessons they're trying to impart.

I'm glad it's not just me. I find him unbearable.

Yes, me too. Tim Spector is unbearably smug and irritating. But some of the Zoe guests can be very interesting. I was listening to Dr Attia last night and plan to listen to this again:

Bash up a load of nuts with a tin under some grease proof paper. That's your crumb.

Bouillon you can just buy that from a supermarket. The vegan one in a green tub is best.

Rare ingredients?

Nuts and stock cubes?

notacooldad · 14/01/2026 12:24

But no, I don’t know where to get nutritional yeast!)

Asda, Tesco Morrisons, Waitrise,Booths, Sainsbury all sell nutritional yeast. So do Holland and Barrett, and other health food shops and Amazon. Ive been buying it for 26 years. I usually add it to things like cheese and mac or homemade burgers.
Its about £4 a tin but lasts ages.

BOOSH,who do the veggie books have their own brand as well.

"This is a basic but delicious recipe."
Anything with ingredients that can't be found in your local supermarket or that have to be cooked in advance is not a basic recipe.

Boosting Bouillon,:

  • 50 g (1/2 cup) nutritional yeast
  • 70 g sunflower seeds
  • 1½ tsp fine sea salt
  • 3 tsp chili flakes (optional, for warmth)
Nutritional yeast is in all major supermarkets. There's always Amazon, it is really worth while it!

Nut crumb receipe i often use

  • ½ cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup raw cashews
  • ¼ tsp fresh cracked pepper
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp sweet smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne
  • ⅛ tsp chili powder And blitz
However I do change depending what nuts I have in.

Both literally take no time at all to make and can be used in loads of different ways. You can add differing to customise them and once in a sealed jar lasts ages.
I usually nake triple the amount and put in a kilner jar.

Hardly rare ingredients!
