Quick question - are you supposed to dilute fruit juice?

DS is 22 months and up til now has only had milk and water to drink. Lately he has been asking specifically for "apple juice" - he put the two things together himself we dont have apple juice in the fridge normally.

Anyway I got some apple juice for him and he has been having one glass of it a day and the rest of the time milk and water. But am I supposed to be diluting the juice?? He has been having it neat as it were so he might not like it if its diluted but I just want to know.

i diluted juice a lot for my kids...yes and it is also more economical has less effect on blood sugar and is better for teeth

diluting it is just better for their teeth, I think half and half should do it.

yes at that age we'd do about 10% juice .. 7 year old still has 50:50 (but so do we now)

won't harm him, but juice is very sweet and not great dentally

Ds has diluted fresh orange. The juice is about quarter of the liquid and he seem as happy with that. Juice is very acidic and bad for the teeth. If he has it with meals though, the salive helps neutralise it.

I wouldn't worry too much though. You see kids with coke in bottles round here...

thanks! I figured I was doing something wrong by not diluting it but wasnt sure why. He's only had it 'full strength' the last couple of days so hopefully his taste buds wont start demanding it like that.

DH was wondering if it was an urban myth that some toddlers have coke in a bottle because he thought the fizziness of coke would make it impossible to suck through a teat?? Dont know. I would never give DS coke anyway - not at this age he has enough energy as it is!

Thanks! Searched for this the other day after DH giving DD (2.2) that Innocent for Kids - I questioned it and BIL (a surgeon) piped up over my head 'don't worry, I know plenty of surgeons who give their kids that and they're fine'. Well, phew, then.
