Dried fruit for 10mth old

Is it ok to give dried fruit which has Sulphur Dioxide as the preservative to my 10mth old? The baby food gurus like Annabel Karmel say to give dried fruit, but I wasn't sure if there is specific sorts that should be given to babies, or if I can just buy the regular ones which contain the Sulphur Dioxide. Help!

I don't know if it's a definite no-no.
I give mine dried figs and apricots with sulphur dioxide.
But you can buy sun-dried apricots which are actually much nicer IMO.

my 12 month old devours raisins like they are going out of fashion!!! has done for ages. i normally get sun maid, i dont know what they are preserved with it just says grapes so i imagine that they are sun dried.

I personally wouldn't give it to them and definitely not if there's a history of asthma or allergies in the family, as it can bring on asthma attacks in those who are sensitive. Other than that I don't think there are any other documented health risks, so it's just another additive and up to you to decide how you feel about additives in general. There are many, many dried fruits which don't contain it though. SunMaid raisins don't, any Crazy Jack Organic fruit doesn't (you can get these in most supermarkets).

Actually, I have a question too - sorry to hijack but it's on the same topic! - could my 9-month old eat raisins, does anybody know? What age did you start giving them to your lo's? I'm not sure if they're a choking hazard?

I think DS2 had them around 10-11 months but i was surprised how well he handled them, so he might have been ready earlier. I suppose it depends how practised they are.

dd can handle them v well at 9 mo hilarious watching her pick them up drop them then pick them up and stuff them in in case they escape again!! they come through in her nappies whole though all that effort for no goodness bless her

Thanks all. I was looking at the Crazy Jacks stuff in Tesco today and was just trying to read the contents when some old lady made DS scream (he often has that reaction when some old biddy starts talking to him and trying to hold his hand!!) so had to dash off to the next aisle to get away from her!!

I tried him with raisins a few weeks ago, and he choked a bit and spat them out, but tried again yesterday and he seemed to really enjoy them. He's got a few more teeth now and is better at chewing so maybe that helps.
