Is anyone else feeling the pinch, with cost of food (and petrol)?

We've started shopping in Aldi- it's not half bad actually. Also making the effort to get to the local market for meat / veg.

Has anyone got any top tips for saving cash with food or drink? Or even better, any recipies that don't break the bank?

Totally agree food is getting more expensive - I've fallen back on some of my student habits. With a huge nod to my upbringing - we didn't always eat so much meat!

Sunday - Big Roast (Chicken , beef etc)
Monday Salad & cold left over meat with baked pots and pickles)
Tuesday Vegetable soup with pasta and chicken/lamb etc (use any left over veg from Sunday and Monday))
Weds Chilli ( with Quorn) and rice
Thurs Salmon steaks with green beans, olives and cherry tomatoes
Fri Frittata (big omelette usingup left over veg )
Sat Pasta with sundried toms, prawns, garlic and a punch!

For lunches - make a big vat of coleslaw

if you want to bulk meat out a bit, mix it with baked beans, so make a normal lasagna or spag bol type thing with half the amount of mince/tin of baked beans. still tastes nice and (prob) better for you
grow your own herbs - they usually grow easily
also started shopping at aldi for fruit and veg - 50p for big bag of oranges! we juice them, yum
