Who eats offal? And if you do, do all your friends pull faces when you order it?

I love liver and sweetbreads.

have also eaten intestines and udder (both good)
don't mind tripe, cooked right.

not eaten brains.

hate kidneys cos of the texture and they smell of wee!

someone will come and tell me I am weird now.

expatinscotland · 08/06/2008 22:57

boak

nkf · 08/06/2008 22:58

I love liver and oxtail.
And steak and kidney.
And have eaten pig's head in France.
And tongue.
I'm weird too.

I am happy enough to eat any offal that is well cooked. No friends don't pull faces.

OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 22:58

I luuurve chicken liver, flash fried with some garlic and salt and with a squeeze of lemon my midnight snack of choice.

Not a fan of other offal, but rather like a good haggis.

ComeOVeneer · 08/06/2008 22:59

I eat kidney only in steak and kidney pie. Love chicken livers (cooked nice and spicy), and calves liver panfried is gorgeous!

wrinklytum · 08/06/2008 22:59

Yuck no,I once worked on a renal ward so kidney is definitely a no-no.I'd also pass on most organs-brains/heart/liver.but dp loves snails, mussels and other mollusc based life forms to munch on.THAT makes me pull faces, mainly of horror and disgust.

OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 23:00

have never tried kidney or oxtail.

Tongue doesn't appeal, and as for brain I'll pass.

Friends don't pull funny faces

nkf · 08/06/2008 23:00

Calves live with bacon and sage. Heaven.

I wonder if the children would eat it?
Is it still cheap food?
Apart from steak and kidney and oxtail, I haven't really cooked it since having children?

I'm with you on this one Expat! Nicely summed up.

harpomarx · 08/06/2008 23:01

forgot about oxtail nkf, is it offal? anyway, I luurve oxtail!

not mad on tongue though, don't know why.

Most disgusting thing i ever ate though was andouillette in France. I have just checked this link and now I know why.

boak indeed.

OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 23:02

CoV is calves liver similar to chicken liver? Should I try it?

nkf · 08/06/2008 23:02

Actually I don't eat tongue but I've tried it.
Liver though. I rather miss the stuff.

OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 23:03

harpomarx that is boaktastic

harpomarx · 08/06/2008 23:03

kids will eat it nkf, so long as you get them on it young enough. Sadly oxtail not cheap anymore, but liver is.

my mum used to cook heart when we were hard up and try to pass it off as 'normal meat' despite our repeated questions about the TUBES in the casserole...

nkf · 08/06/2008 23:04

Calves liver is stronger in taste and bigger and doesn't go pate like.

OP posts:
TsarChasm · 08/06/2008 23:04

I know I'm going to regret this but what are sweetbreads anyway?

OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 23:05

nfk liver is pretty cheap. I add it to bolognese and DS eats it that way. He won't eat it on its own though, despite numerous offerings

nkf · 08/06/2008 23:05

Tubes in casserole! Nooooo.

OP posts:
OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 23:05

I was just avout to ask that Tsar

ComeOVeneer · 08/06/2008 23:06

Not really (although perhaps that is due to the different styles I use of cooking it). Cakves liver is generally a thin fillet which I panfry in butter with sage. Chicken livers are whole and I fry them in butter with onions and a load of peri peri sauce, with crusty bread for dipping. Think I have decided what to make for dinner tomorrow

TsarChasm · 08/06/2008 23:06

OMG Harpo...what a link

nkf · 08/06/2008 23:07

Me too.

OverMyDeadBody · 08/06/2008 23:07

I slice chicken liver thinly and then flask fry it with garlic, just a few minutes, so it cooks but doesn't go mushy.

Have lots of sage in the garden, might have to get some calves liver and experiment!
