I eat very little cheese now, used to be a cheeseaholic. since i've stopped, i find that it makes my tum very bad afterwards!!!

can't resist a little vacherin though.

In a typical week I'd spend a fortune on:

Camembert for the H
Roquefort for DD1
Comté for DD2
Ossau Irauty for all 3 of them
Parmesan and Gruyère for cooking
St Moret Petits Crèmes for DS, who spits any other cheese out

Nothing for me because I HATE CHEESE

Jamila, you are so right. Halloumi is wonderful. I grilled it with peppers. Fab. Had to fight the children for it. I think it could have done with some herbs though. Basil maybe.

I LOVE any sort of cheese. But I am off it at the moment. I severely overindulged in the blessed yellow at the weekend and I am paying for it severely.

bugger NKf - I kept looking at the manchego and wonderingwhat i would do with it - I've got 2 jars of homemade quince jelly sat in my fridge!
heres cheese porn for you:
I got some unpasteurised cave matured,genuine somerset cheddar
some Morbier - raclette stylee with a band of charcoal through the middle
some caerphilly with white wine ,garlic and herbs - I made an exception to my usual 'no faffy cheese' rule because it's bloody gorgeous!

I too have membrillo in my fridge and Manchego, and camembert and appleby's cheshire and parmigiano reggiano and fresh goats cheese and halloumi and mozzarella and baby bel(for dd)
That's quite a lot of cheese really isn't it

One of the great advantages of being on a low carb diet is that fat is allowed!

Love mature cheddar - especially Sainsbury's Canadian

I barbecue Halloumi. Slice it up and grill till browned. Serve with a dressing of olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, black pepper, mustard powder and fresh coriander.

Proper Wensleydale from Wensleydale. Which often gives us a good excuse to go to Wensleydale for the day. With petrol the price it is I think that makes us into a high-cost cheese family!

My all-time favourite is Capricorn, an English Brie-style goat's cheese, but I also like Ribblesdale mature goat, Yorkshire blue, blue Wensleydale, bleu d'amour, a deliciously mild and squidgy French cheese, Vignotte, very fattening but mild and creamy, Mr Appleby's Cheshire, a good mature Cheddar ... you may guess that we have a great cheese shop near us that also sells wine and beer - a winning combination!

mmmmmm cheese

shropshire blue - more mild and creamy than stilton but still with that lovely mouldy punch!

i obviously need to try more cheeses - i havent heard of half the ones you've all mentioned!

Oh, I nearly forgot -if anyone is doing sherwood forest or indeed center parcs, the Welbeck estate farm shop has some corkers,mostly from a 30 mile radius,so there's lots from Leicestershire,Notts ,Yorkshire and Derbyshire, all small producers.
this is my regular dealer Grin

parmesan- can't be without
feta
gevrik- lovely goats cheese from sainsbo
or Capricorn
gruyere or emmental
big chunk of mature farmhouse cheddar
occasionally some Irish farmhouse cheeses like:
Desmond
gubeen
boillie

When I can afford it, I go to the proper cheese shop and buy ripe, runny San Felician. It's about £6 here and about 6p in France.

I also buy runny Dolcelatte - the bluer the better.

I always have Parmensan in the fridge and strong cheddar.

God, I love cheese.

oh my god, this thread is like cheese porn. I am pregnant at the moment and sooooooo missing my cheese.

I like:

Saint Agur - very cold from the fridge on crackers
Vignotte - delicious, very light and melting in the mouth
Chevre log - particularly for salads with toasted chevre and onion confit, mmmmmmmmm
Manchego for munching neat
Roquefort
Gorgonzola, as long as it's really soft and gooey

And you can't beat a really mature cheddar for absolutely everything, from welsh rarebit to pizza, to just cheese and pickle sandwiches. MMMMMMMM.

LOL nfk! Tetilla is probably a bit obscure for you lot in UK. I live in Galicia, NW Spain, and it's one of our regional cheeses. A mild cows' milk cheese, set into a nipple shape.

I used to know a really foodie couple who called Cheddar "cooking cheese." How poncey and wrong is that. Cubes of cheese and sliced apple are a lovely snack. And so low in calories.
