Im drinking Yorkshire Tea decaf at the moment which I thought wouldnt let me down but its just bleh.

Made worse by the fact that I really like and need a good strong tea flavour

Any recommendations?

Unfortunately having tried lots of brands I found Yorkshire tea is the best out there.

Sainsbury's own brand decaf is surprisingly good! Recently switched to it from clipper decaf as clipper was getting so expensive. I've been drinking decaf for about 4 years now though between pregnancies and breastfeeding so this recommendation comes with the disclaimer that my taste buds might have changed!

I thought as much

Its the same with coffee to be honest. I wonder what the decaffing process does to take the flavour out?

Clipper is alright

THISbitchingwitch · 29/10/2025 07:14

Yorkshire decaf was my go to when pregnant

CoachNot · 29/10/2025 07:15

Yorkshire tea, leave it in for at least 5 min

Arrival78 · 29/10/2025 07:16

Clipper is a no ! Just expensive and meh.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 29/10/2025 07:16

Lidl and Tesco own brand decaf are both very decent. I used to buy Clipper as it's organic but it's quite bland.

Also I find making tea in a pot with a tea cosy brings out the best in decaf.

twilightcafe · 29/10/2025 07:17

Yes - Aldi own-label tea bags.

Partridgewell · 29/10/2025 07:17

Clipper and Yorkshire are ok. You have to leave it to brew for longer than normal, as a PP has said. At least five minutes. Treat it like you would that terrible Lipton stuff they have on the continent.

GetToHeaven · 29/10/2025 07:17

I found Yorkshire tea the best when I was pregnant too. You do have to leave the teabag in for longer though!

MumoftwoNC · 29/10/2025 07:18

I drink teapigs decaf which is the best I've found so far but still nothing like the real thing. It's a problem because I drink so much tea that I start to get a headache if I don't have time for a second cup in the morning - a sign I need to cut down for sure.

Sometimes I put two decaf teabags in at once to make it a bit stronger

BigGirlBoxers · 29/10/2025 07:20

I must have rubbish taste buds because I switched to decaf tea a few months ago, assuming it would taste nasty, but I can't tell the difference. It is way better than the last time I tried it (a few decades ago!) I've used Ringtons, Yorkshire and one other (perhaps Twinings?) and they've all been fine.

soupyspoon · 29/10/2025 07:23

Perhaps I will leave it in longer and also double bag

We're Yorkshire Gold devotees here and I've never found any decaf that is even half acceptable.

Best compromise is using real leaf tea and leaving it to stew for ages, but it's not a patch on our normal tea

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 29/10/2025 07:26

There's no denying that decaf is inferior to real, but as I've got older I've had to cut back on caffeine. I don't understand what in the process affects the flavour but it's the same with decaf coffee (weirdly that tastes stronger and more bitter to me whereas decaf always seems a bit limp).

I do think Yorkshire decaf is decent enough. You've got to stew any decaf tea I think.

BigGirlBoxers · 29/10/2025 07:27

Perhaps those of you for whom it is horrible live in hard water areas? I live in quite a soft water area and tea colours up much more readily here.

ChopstickNovice · 29/10/2025 07:27

Twinings earl grey decaf is v good IMO.

Tiebiter · 29/10/2025 07:28

Yorkshire tea but don't take the teabag out - treat it like herbal.

This is very true, I think our water must be the hardest in the country from when we stay around the country in airbnbs the difference is stark

Awful awful water we have here. We've tried various filters and even a filter tap that broke in the end.

Yorkshire decaf is awful. I had to abandon it. Tetley decaf tastes much more like tea if you want to try that one

Troubler · 29/10/2025 07:29

I’m in a hard water area so maybe that’s why

I'm in Scotland and yet to find a decent decaff tea.

DiamondRBD · 29/10/2025 07:30

Ive tried a lot of decaf teas and Yorkshire decaf was the best. Although I drink both this and Yorkshire gold and they taste different. Pregnancy was hell for me without proper tea and coffee. Hard water here too

Namechangeforthis88 · 29/10/2025 07:32

In fact I'd stopped trying because people recommend e.g. clipper, you buy a box of 40 or 80 and after a couple of attempts, including leaving it to stew for ages, you give up and bin the rest of the box.
