tassisssss · 04/06/2008 19:42

platter of smoked salmon on bread
coronation chicken (man, i suggest that about daily, i'm so boring!)
homemade quiche?
salmon pasta dish
chirozo sausage pasta dish
whole cooked salmon
platter of cold meats

A ham or gammon, boiled new potatoes and salad. Equally good hot, warm or cold.

Iklboo · 04/06/2008 19:44

Big pan of chilli/hot pot? It's only need one ring of an oven to heat
Like the ploughmans idea - lots of crusty bread & cheese & stuff and folk can tear n share

janeite · 04/06/2008 19:47

How far do you have to travel to get it there? New potatoes and a quiche would stay reasonably warm wrapped in foil for 20 mins or so and could be served with a salad.

Or go for something Greek or Mediteranean-ish as it's often served lukewarm anyway.

An unusual lasagna or pasta dish eg: canneloni w pork mince bacon and basil, lasagne with salmon and spinach, etc.

Had a small brain wave. Feeling giddy now.
Get a couple of the "Old El Paso" dinner kits. Burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, tacos. Lovely jubly.
The trouble with the crusty bread idea is that if somebody else is asked to take a starter they are very likely to take something with bread. Thus giving whatever you offer a bit of a 'Duh' factor.
Or a shepherd's pie alongside a huge dish of mixed veg.

salade nicoise

lilolilmanchester · 05/06/2008 23:21

Delia's tarragon chicken salad with grapes tastes far more special than it sounds. Have suggested this so often, I am also getting boring Tassisssss!
