Our freezer door was left open and some mince felt a bit squidgey so i thawed it like i should and cooked a huge shepherds pie which i then froze all cooked - so today i want it for tea - i am currently defrosting it in th microwave but its taking forever - can i cook from frozen or should i defrost throughly and then (i am no domestic goddess!) what temp and how long in a fan oven to reheat??

Please dont laugh at me !

TBH I would have binned it.

Can you leave it to defrost in its own time?

Nappyzoneneedsanewname · 03/06/2008 13:32

there was nothing wrong with the mince - the door was only left open about 2 hrs so it was starting to go defrosted hence i thought oh well i will just let it defrost and cook it iyswim.....

Have you got a defrost mode in your microwave??? You could give it a headstart it in there for 20 mins or so and then let it rest on the side for a few hours to thaw though completely.

I'd probably chuck it in the oven at about 180 later to warm for tea for about an hour but it depends on how big it is.

As always check it'd piping hot before you serve it up though.

really? it was raw frozen then cooked so changed form and now froze again - fook now what can i have for tea??? Suppose the same goes for the lump of mince bolognese i made too!

if there is a risk of anyone being ill i would rather not risk it - we have loads of beans in

If you cooked it, it is safe to eat now but I would defrost it before I cook it, I think. Make sure it is bubbling before you eat it.

Nappyzoneneedsanewname · 03/06/2008 13:45

ok so to recap i cooked it (from frozen mince that i deforsted) and then made it into shep pie and froze it immedietly after it had cooled as a made up pie - i have now deforsted it almost in the micro and will cook it at 180 till its bubbling - knowone will die? I am right yeah??

Freezing cooked meat that was previously frozen as when raw is fine.

I'd reheat for a good 50-60 mins or until bubbling, and check it's piping hot all over before serving.

It'll be lovely!

Minum · 03/06/2008 13:50

I would be very happy to eat it, as long as its bubbling when you serve it. Enjoy

Would be a total waste to chuck it. You were right in the first place. Surely you have a bit longer before you need to cook it?
