I haven't made rock cakes for years, and have lost my recipe. Are they very different from fruit scones? My dd is desperate to make some and it would be great if MN could make a little girl very happy!

Here is mine...
225g/8oz s/r flour
pinch salt
110g/4oz butter, softened
50g/2oz gran sugar
1 large egg
1 tbsn milk
(either 75g sultanas or raisins OR 50g each of white and milk choc drops)

I whizz flour, pinch of salt and butter in food processor but you can rub it together.
Then stir in sugar and either fruit or choc drops. Add beaten egg and milk and bring dough together.
Dollop heaps onto greased baking tray and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in preheated oven (200/400/gas6) for 12-15 mins. Cool on wire rack and eat as soon as poss!!

I do a similar recipe but add in some fresh orange zest or even a splash of orange juice to the mix, and it's lovely. I always add plenty of spices too, or some vanilla as I get bored with plain recipes.
