Mince meat - if today is use by date, can I freeze and use another day?

Just noticed that the mince meat in the fridge has use by date of today. But we're off out so won't be cooking it today. Could I freeze it then defrost and cook it on another day?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

purpleduck · 30/05/2008 23:25

yep, I would, just use it straight away when you thaw it.

Twinklemegan · 30/05/2008 23:30

I would too. If your freezer has an express freeze setting then stick it on that (but don't forget to switch it back...)

I would as you could have bought it today and shoved it straight in the freezer iyswim.

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/05/2008 23:44

Of course you can! Why ever would you not?

Freezing is a process of preserving, so if it's use by date of today, then you're effectively preserving it at that date.

(Obviously it won't last forever!)

Yes, use by dates are to cover the supermarket.

Defrost for 24 hours in the fridge, within the next month or so. If after that it looks & smells OK, it is OK.
