Sponge cake - if making whole cake instead of sandwich how long to bake??

Am doing one to decorate for christening (8 in. round)and am not sure about baking time as I can only find recipes for sandwich sponges which take about 20 mins.

Off the top of my head I would say check it after 35 mins. If it's springy to the touch stick a skewer in, if it comes out clean it's done.

Something I've noticed (but this may be peculiar to my oven/kitchen)is that the moment the air is filled with that lovely baking smell is the time to check.
