Mine is:
Supernoodles

Argh, Supernoodles

For DH and I, carbonara*.

For the three of us, pasta with ham, peas and cream - this is dignified by being a Nigella recipe, but is basically as described, plus parmesan.

  • Rex the Runt, anyone?

tagliatelle tossed with lemon juice, garlic, black pepper and butter. shred in some panchetta

AitchTwoCiao · 25/05/2008 21:51

tell you what, anchovies softened in olive oil, chilli flakes, then pasta added with flat parsley and the juice of a whole lemon and rind to taste is bloody lovely. not very family, though, what with the almost complete lack of veg.

Anchovies EVERYWHERE
Am I missing something?
Why are they so popular in pasta dishes?
I thought they were vile salty things....

My favourite cheapy dinner is
chopped bacon
diced onion
mushrooms
couple of spoons of good tomato puree
loads of black pepper.
once it's all fried off toss into spaghetti.

It's great with a shed load of mature cheddar melted on top.

AitchTwoCiao · 25/05/2008 22:03

they are vile salty things, until they are softened in olive oil. used sparingly, they lend a lip-smacking umami to dishes. over use and under cook, and they're revolting imo.

cyteen · 25/05/2008 22:53

Fresh marinated anchovies are delicious [drool]

AitchTwoCiao · 25/05/2008 22:53

oh yes, fresh are lovely.

taipo · 25/05/2008 23:02

My dear departed DM came up with this one many years ago - it's called Pasta Mess (because it looks it), it's incredibly simple, very healthy, DCs and adults alike love it, it's really tasty!! (and cheap)

Baked beans
Tomatoes
Tuna
Pasta twirls (fusilli)
Mature cheddar

Put beans, tuna and tomatoes in pan and heat up. Cook up some pasta.

Top with a sprinkle of the cheddar to taste.

Pasta with pesto and cayenne pepper.

GryffinGirl · 28/05/2008 15:55

red pepper pesto, squeeze of lemon juice. Grate a bit of parmasan over th top, throw on a few rocket leaves and some black pepper. Voila.

My mum used to make what she called macaroni mince and we used to have this every Saturday for our tea

Fry onions and mince together and meanwhile cook your macaroni. Once the mince os nicely cooked through and the pasta is cooked, throw it all together ans stir through a tin of Campbell's condensed tomato soup. Then, in true Scottish fashion...serve with chips

sounds horrible, but it was surprisingly tasty.....

Note, it has to be condensed soup or the sauce is just too thin.

Really easy - Pasta with Smoked Salmon in a creamy garlic sauce...

Cook pasta and drain. In a saucepan melt a hunk of Boursin, thin down with single cream or milk. Stir sauce through pasta and fling in smoked salmon chopped up into small pieces. Top with chopped parsley - Yummy and ultrafast. You can probably make it as fast as writing the recipe out if you have fresh pasta. I always use the salmon offcuts as it is going to be choopped up anyway.
