If a recipe required 1 tablespoon of tom puree would you use the same amount of passata or more?

more

nappyaddict · 22/05/2008 13:48

how much more?

more - tom puree is concentrated. You might need to adjust the liquids elsewhere.

OverMyDeadBody · 22/05/2008 13:48

what I mean is I'd add more passata and then cook it for longer to reduce it down, but I never worry about following recipes exactly.

OverMyDeadBody · 22/05/2008 13:49

what's it for?

OverMyDeadBody · 22/05/2008 13:49

Puree will just give a more concentrated tomato flavour, so add as much passata as you want and cook it down to reduce the liquid

nappyaddict · 22/05/2008 13:52

it's for a sausage hot pot.

use passata instead of the other liquid (stock?)

or get some tomato puree - it costs about 30p and handy to have in the fridge

nappyaddict · 22/05/2008 13:59

i don't like the taste of tom puree that's why i want to use passata instead.

and i got confused its for a lentil curry not hot pot. doh! the recipes says 2 pints of water so think i will try 1 pint water, 1 pint passata.

If you don't like that metallicy taste of teh puree, add a tsp of sugar. Should help get rid of it.

nappyaddict · 22/05/2008 14:10

I have tried adding vinegear before but I still wasn't keen. I'm on a diet and my dad is diabetic so would prefer not to use any sugar if i can help it.

do 1 pint of water and 1 of passata then, and maybe a stock cube for extra flavour?

nappyaddict · 22/05/2008 14:26

bleugh stock cubes puke

i've got bouillon powder i'll put some of that in.

for lentil curry I just use a few fresh tomatoes, you don't really want lentil curry to taste of tomatoes. And you shouldn't need stock neither - jsut spices.

micci25 · 22/05/2008 14:32

use tom ketchup the same amount that is what i do when dp and dd have used all the puree making pitta bread pizzas and not bothered telling me that we need more
