Need a really quick and easy dessert for tomorrow - limited ingredients!

I have to feed 8 people tomorrow (4 adults and 4 kids) and don't want to spend hours in the kitchen so preferably something I can prepare in advance (tonight or early tomorrow morning). I have 2 large punnets of strawberries in the fridge, loads of double cream, dark cooking chocolate, usual storecupboard extras.... any bright ideas really welcome but needs to be something that will appeal to the kids as well as adults.
Thanks!!

make some meringues and before serving crush up into the mixture of sliced strawberries and whipped cream (add bit of sugar to strawbs for a bit of syrup) and sprinkle with grated chocolate - chill ! a kind of Eton mess

Make a big sponge cake tonight and then fill it with whipped cream and chopped strawberries just before serving tomorrow. You could also dip some of the strawberries in melted chocolate and let dry, then sit them on top of the sponge - looks nice and everybody loves them (or they do in our family anyway!).

dip the strawbs half in the melted chocolate and let them set, then serve with cream.

or, make a meringue (easy peasy) and make pavlova....whip the cream pile on the top of the meringue, chuck the strawbs on top and drizzle with melted chocolate. (variation chocolate meringue)

home made strawberry ice cream? or is that too much of a faff without an icecream maker?

chocolate mousse with strawberries on the side?

Buy a sponge flan, whip the double cream with a little castor sugar and line the flan, chop strawberries and cover the cream, grate some dark chocolate over the top of it all.

Love your name PootleFlump! But sponge flans are horrid sorry!

pavlova gets my vote too. chocolate merangue, whipped cream, pile with strawbs and grated choc.

Amandella · 17/05/2008 16:26

oh thanks everyone. What lovely ideas! Think I'll go for the pavlova!! Thanks again.

Could you get/make meringues?
