Please, someone recommend a bread-maker to me. It doesn't need to be too fancy.

You must buy a Panasonic. All other breadmakers are forbidden under MN byelaws.

OK then, which model? Some eco site said to get a Morphy Richards as apparently they have the best ethical record.

tho i recently flagrantly ignored the panasonic dictate (from RL too) as could not resist the lure of the super-cheap Tesco own brand one and it has been very good.

Oh I don't know I'm afraid, I make mine by hand

(It's bloody rock-hard though)

mine is a fast bake morphy richards

tis dead ethical was apresent from exdps mum before he dumped me lol

LOL Policy. I have a pipe dream somewhere about floating around the house in a long skirt and bare feet with a baby on each hip and baking bread all day. Sadly I'm a WOHM and I'm hard pushed to get time to buy the ingredients let along bake the sodding stuff.

What's with the Panasonic thing then? I'm definitely veering towards MR.

The Tesco one has been very good and very cheap ..... cant imagine how you could get a better loaf out of one. I have 2 friends in RL who binned MR ones in favour of Panasonic ones (or took them to the recycling centre hopefully). Why are MR supposed to be more eco?

Twinklemegan · 16/05/2008 21:33

Dunno really, but I find it so difficult to make a decision I have to have some criteria to help me! Did you get the Tesco one in store - I didn't see any at my local Tesco Extra.

yes I did but it was about a month or so ago - think i saw them the other day though with all the irons, toasters etc.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/05/2008 21:37

I had a Morphy Richards fastbake. I only upgraded to Panasonic because I use it 3 times a week and wanted a bigger one.
MR was excellent. Panasonic is a bit better, but if you don't want to spend £££ the MR is fine.
The difference is that the Panasonic has fancy temperature sensors which affect how long it takes for different stages, rather than it doing it to a set time. Also the Panasonic has an automatic raisin dispenser but frankly I have only used that a couple of times.
Basically even the cheapest bread machine will still make better bread than Chorleywood crap.

I have a Panasonic - a lovely friend bought it for me about 3 years ago. Shamefully, I have never used it. It always seems like too much of a faff to read the instructions so I continue to make bread by hand.
