Raw veg and fruit - what can babies eat when?

I'm a little stumped - I've been giving my 13 month old cooked veg (broccoli, sweet potato, etc. etc.) and fruit both raw and cooked.

I'd like a little inspiration about raw fruit and veg now the weather's a little better - can they eat lettuce/raw salad veg at this age?

Basically I'm feeling a little lazy now we're eating more salads and want easy to prepare (chop up and present) ideas - anyone????

(Also a little nervous about the raw apple/choking aspect - when can they tuck into raw apple, etc.?)

Thanks!

Yes - my DS loves salad and fruit (well I say loves, as much as the little stick insect 'loves' any food)

Do you just plop lettuce leaves on her tray and she eats them? Or raw celery? Radishes? Carrot, tomato, etc.?

I think I forsee my girl totally refusing them and that's why I haven't tried........

I give him largish chunks of salad (really just how I make ours) a bit of lettuce, celery, pepper, cucumber, tomato. He loves cucumber - must be the coolness. Never tried raw carrot or radish as we don't have it in salad.

Cucumber's good without the skin. My ds was okay with raw apple and pear at this age and I think I started him on skinned, halved grapes too. Ready cooked beetroot is worth a try, as is avocado. Celery might be pushing it! I think that so long as you watch her while she tries stuff, you can give her pretty much anything.
Baby Led Weaning (BLW) sites will give you more info - try looking on the weaning topic on this forum for the link.

Blimey, we're into salad leaves, tomato, cucumber, peppers, chunks of melon (leaving the (washed) skin on makes it easier to grasp), peach, apple, pear, strawberries, grapes, absolutely anything really ... DS is 9 months!

He gags once in a while but he's never choked yet

my lo's dont eat salad veg but at that age they were eating strawberries cut in half, grapes halved (I never peeled them as it is too messy and fiddly), peeled and chopped apple/pear (sometimes I peel the apple and hand it to ds whole and he gnaws his way through it), whole banana, etc. Both lo's are a bit rubbish at any veg now unfortunately

it's at www.babyledweaning.com, and dd LOVED celery from the fridge when she was teething. the stringy bits remain and they just chew on it until it gives in.

no point anticipating disaster, gerbo, just try to prepare yourself for what you might do if he gags or chokes.
