use it as spinach: wilt in saucepan and then melt a little butter, garlic and lemon juice in a frying pan and toss the chard in it: absoultely delicious, espec with fish or lamb. If you've planted it, just keep cutting as you need and it'll come again and again....

it's my favourite thing, but surely coming to the end of the season??

i usually chop up the stems and leave separately after washing them. then gently stirfry the finely chopped stems (with garlic, butter, olive oil, chilli, whatever) and add shredded leaves a little later so it all cooks evenly.

serve tossed with pasta or on its own as a side dish.

Another vote for stir-frying it here (although that is my default option for any greens that come in the veg box).

Cook it the way bundle said, either on its won or with lots o fother vegetables for a nice stir fry, or mix some creme fresh into it for a nice pasta sauce, or, once cooked, mix it with pine nuts and cubes of halloumi cheese and use as a filling for pastry parsels. Add it to quiche mixture for a tasty quiche.

I usually just use a few leaves chopped up with a big vegetable stir fry. Am not fond of it raw.

It's also great added to oriental style brothy soups.

oh and my favourite thing to stirfry it with atm is rose harisa...

ours very defnitely not at end of season (but it will shoot/ bolt if not cut when ready). Try the variety with coloured stems... even nicer!

gosh yes ruby chard is a real winner with me

i usually add a squirt of lemon juice at the end of cooking

OverMyDeadBody · 13/05/2008 11:27

Oh yes the ruby chard, I love that stir fried with beetroot stems and some garlic and lemon juice.
