I made a cake for a friend's birthday party yesterday, and nicked the idea from a cake I saw on t'interweb... what d'you reckon? (bottom of profile pics)

I also had to make a second cake for DD, who was NOT impressed that mummy was going off to a party without her - especially one that didn't even give out party bags at the end of the proceedings!

That cake was such an experiment, I've never attempted fondant before because I normally hate the stuff on 'shop' cakes, but I found an American recipe that involves melting marshmallows in the microwave and stirring in icing sugar with a bit of water - works like magic and tastes so much nicer than readymade stuff.

Actually, I'm not sure if it's a compliment or not, but several people at the party refused to believe I'd made it... and one guy accused me of buying my scones (t'was an afternoon tea party and I'd supplied the scones) in Waitrose rather than making them because they were 'too nice'!

Am off to buy marshmallows now...
