Is there anything you've stopped eating only because DP doesn't like it?

I was in the fruit and veg shop this morning, and I suddenly realised that I hadn't bought a red pepper for ages because Dh can't stand them.

I got all rebellious and decided to get one anyway, and stuff him!

But it got me thinking, is there anything that you used to eat loads of, but now don't because of DP?

yes, aubergines and mushrooms have that 'texture' thing that loads of people don't like.

We never eat pasta as DH doesn't like it, it's really annoying as it's such an easy meal and my 10 month old loves it. As soon as DH is away with work we eat lots of pasta dishes!

Fish

i do the stealth food thing - dh thinks he doesn't eat red peppers or coriander but he actually has them on a regular basis!

TheUnsinkableMB · 07/05/2008 15:33

Booze - My dp is teetotal, he doesn't mind if I drink, I just don't drink much when he's around, probably because I'm more aware of it.

Cappuccino · 07/05/2008 15:40

dh doesn't like cooked cheese

fondant4000 · 07/05/2008 15:50

Whole fish (though I have one and he has smoked mackerel fillet)

Any meal without potatoes or starch of some kind

Actually we are eating a lot more of what I want to eat since he was told by theGP to cut his cholesterol

I would advise anyone who loves fish, fruit and vegetables to suggest a health chec-up to their dp

Only problem is now we can't have cakes....

We dont have lamb at home as DH doesnt like it
(What he really doesnt like is how his mother used to cook it - but thats a different gripe)
So I always have roast lamb or lamb curry as my choice.

DP hates mushrooms (they're "bouncy" apparently ) - he even hates picking them out of things. I quite often have mushrooms on toast in the day though just to get my fix

keeptakingthetablets · 07/05/2008 16:04

Sprouts.

Love 'em, DH hates, I can't be bothered "just for me" - DD's are fostering a yearning tho, since wintertime - hurrah for dominant genes

AbbeyA · 07/05/2008 16:10

Kippers.

florenceuk · 07/05/2008 16:23

gosh amazing how many DPs don't like mushrooms! My DH dislikes: mushrooms, most fish, shellfish, poultry on the bone, pork. Consequently our joint meals never have any of these ingredients (considering my Chinese background, a huge sacrifice). Luckily the kids like fish and prawns but they get fed these separately (e.g. stirfry with prawns on the side).

Buckets · 07/05/2008 16:27

I tend to have whole fish when out because DH gets annoyed with it at home. But then he only gets lamb when he's out because I can't stand the smell (or taste.)

fondant4000 · 08/05/2008 12:22

bouncy.... ROFL

Going to add that to my dd's fave description - 'too fudgey' - mind you she is only 5

barnstaple · 08/05/2008 12:36

Aubergines, swedes, fish, turnips, jerusalem artichokes, in fact most vegetables. Have just got him eating cabbage after 11 years and now he really likes it. There is hope!

Kif · 08/05/2008 12:39

Well, my Dd doesn't like anything creamy/cheesy/milky - and it's only recently that I'v noticed how I don't even bother with lasagna/cream sauce/white sauce family type dishes.

Pomi · 09/05/2008 13:35

Most of our asian veg. I have successfully weaned some of these veg but other i cook less often like okra i dont remember when i last cook it, though this is one of my favourite veg. I never cook liver also.

I have changed many of DH bad food habits.. not all... the only thing he used to eat that was green were green M&Ms... I think I have worn him down.. he know loves mushrooms, tolerates salad with dressing, and vegetable soup as long as I blitz it...

he still hates corn (we don't have it very often) and peas.. though I did get him to have and like some corn chowder I made.. perhaps I should make some pea soup with chedder and bacon...

oh and he hates spagetti.. but loves pasta.. he makes a mess worse than DS as he cant DO spagetti we dont have it very often.

oh and DH hates cumin.. but he likes chilli.. and what do you make chilli with?
