8 months old boy on 3 meals now, how many "milk meals"?

Hello, just wondered if someone could tell me how often I should feed my baby milk (I am still breastfeeding but have just started to give him formula milk). He gets some veggies for lunch, fruits in the afternoon and cereals in the evening. Not sure how often I should give him finger food and how many milk feeds he needs besides the morning and evening feed?

I know I thought 7 was a bit mad but for me it was reassuring as DD at 8 months is still on about 4 or 5 feeds a day and doesn't look like she'll be cutting down. Particularly odd since it says breast or formula feeds... surely 7 formula feeds a day would be quite a bad thing?

Definitely happy and healthy (well apart from string of minor illnesses brought home from nursery but know that is normal). Think I might start trying to give non-milk snacks also but DD only has two teeth so finger food can be quite time-consuming.

Must be a misprint or typo in your Ready Steady Baby book!

Wow what a result. Only typed my message this morning and already 33 messages when I got back, mumsnet really works. Thanks for all the tips, I must admit I am still a bit confused regarding the amount of milk but found some of your meal tips really handy. As for breakfast, he doesn't seem to want anything apart from milk, but will keep trying. Regarding the May thread, he was borne in April (is almost 9 months now)...

Then go join the April thread- they are nice too (though not quite as nice as us May Mums - says the AMy mum who actually delivered on 27/4 )

Everything I've read seems to say 1 pint/20 oz but not sure how many feeds thats split over (doubt it mattters) or how much they are likely to be getting at a bf.

Simi - if you are still breastfeeding why are you starting formula milk? He can get all the milk he needs in food and with a couple of breastfeeds a day IMO. I started dropping breastfeeds once solids were established as 3 meals a day. I never substituted them for milk at all. Cow's milk is fine in cooking. I wouldn't want to start it at this stage. Absolutely no need for follow-on milk either.
