And to put it into perspective I have just eaten quite an elderly one. So be gentle breaking the news to me.

How elderly, 20p?

I would have thought a couple of days would be fine. Maybe a week at a push but I don't think I'd eat it.

twentypence · 02/05/2008 02:17

Oh dear

we are talking a lot more elderly.

Well it's a few hours since I ate it and I am still alive and my stomach still contains the egg.

Well, let us know if anything bad happens, won't you.

Out of interest, just how old was it? Not more than 2 weeks, surely?

twentypence · 02/05/2008 07:38

5 hours and still fine. I estimate about 3 weeks - but it could be around four.

I hate wasting food.

I think they keep for ages. We had loads of painted hard boiled eggs over Easter and were still eating them over 1 week later.

Not sure about 3-4 weeks though....

piratecat · 02/05/2008 07:50

blimey!! 3 weeks?

I was wondering this the other day.

madamy · 02/05/2008 07:54

wikipedia says 2-3 weeks, so I'm sure you'll be fine!

Flier · 02/05/2008 07:57

I googled it here are a couple of answers:-

www.netwellness.org/healthtopics/poison/hardboiledeggs.cfm

www.canfightbac.org/cpcfse/en/cookwell/ask/eggs/

the first one basically says that, if the egg smells off then you'll know not to eat it.

the 2nd one says it will keep for upto a week.

well, i've learned somethng

twentypence · 02/05/2008 11:00

It smelt and tasted fine. It was organic and free range.

I'm picking if I haven't been violently sick now (10 hours) then I'll be fine.

No idea but your thread title made me envisage a hb egg sat on a little tiny sofa in your fridge.

UnderRated · 02/05/2008 18:05

Am glad you are ok, 20p

twentypence · 03/05/2008 02:05

So, I am living proof that you can survive at least 24 hours after eating a hard boiled egg that has sat in the fridge for 4 weeks.

DH's lovely grandparents, who are not here any longer, would buy a dozen eggs, hard boil them all, and leave them in the fridge until they were eaten....

Needless to say, I never ate egg while I was at their house!
