at last I've bought a steamer! although according to the booklet that came with it - broccoli should be steamed for 12 mins - is that right (to leave it a little crunchy?) seems a bit long?

Steaming usually takes longer than boiling so 12 mins is fine. I usually do broccali for a bit longer as dh and children moan if it is too crunchy.

Gosh - that sounds really long to me - we steam broccoli for about 5 mins max! But I do like it with a little bite, not too soggy.

Steaming is fantastic - New Scientist had some research on vitamins in cooked veggies, and steaming was streets ahead. So just feel your healthy halo glowing as you munch your steamed veg.

i shall try 5 mins and taste it then put back in if too crunchy.
