How do you make coloured sugar?

I want to make some sugar biscuits shaped as pigs and ducks (farm party!) and want the pigs to have pink sugar on them and the ducks yellow sugar.

How do I colour the sugar?

Are you icing them or just using sugar by itself?

drops of liquid food colouring - just a very little. put the granulated sugar in a bowl, drop in 1 or 2 drops colouring, and stir. spread it out on a tray to let it dry. hth

easier to make glace icing

anorak · 29/04/2008 19:42

you have to stir and stir to get it to spread evenly, but it looks lovely when you've done it.

brilliant - thank you

just fancied a change from glace icing and fancied some good old fashioned sugar biscuits!

how do you get the coloured sugar to stick to the biscuits? [thick]

PandaG · 29/04/2008 19:47

can sprinkle on before baking and press in, or stick on afterwards with egg white (maybe not if for other children) or thin glace icing

this recipe I'm following says to sprinkle on before baking... literally just about to do it so I'll let you know if it works!
