How long does it take for jelly to set? Quite urgent!

If you pour it into individual bowls, it will set in a couple of hours. If it is all in one mould/bowl, you need at least overnight and make sure it is in the fridge.

I have a vague recollection of my HE teacher from many years ago saying jelly in a bowl with iced water or ice cubes makes it set quicker and pineapple juice will stop it from setting completly...she was an inspiration

I think the bowl of iced water method is for use if you have no fridge (not meaning to suggest you did HE in the days before universal refrigeration!) but I am happy to be wrong. Basically, keeping it as cold as possible can only help.

Put it in the freezer for half an hour.

well, my dear husband has cocked it right up.

Firstly ignored the quantity instructions, it says it needs 3 pints for 3 packets. DH knows better. He has put less in.

Secondly, he has put it in the freezer to speed it up. Hot jelly into a freezing cold freezer.

I am taking it there will be no jelly at this party hmm]

If you make it up with slightly less water than recommended it'll set quicker and, crucially, is much easier to pick up lumps of it from the floor and your hair.

Less water is not a problem. Is this for a party? Run and out and buy those paper jelly cases you can get. It will set really quickly in those.

bringmesunhine - short lived harmony. he is now furious as I threw glitter all over him os he was being too uptight about DD spilling it over the table .

So basically, he has done ok then? Oh dear, am I going to have to back track?

It is for a party - we said we will do it a we have one of those wibbly wobbly bowls and thought it would be nice. I expect my friend would have forgotten and made some anyway.

jelly in the freezer defo works - do it myself. Just don't leave it in too long or it'll freeze!
