The risotto on What's For Dinner????? reminded me that I once ate the most divine Roast Quail on the creamiest risotto at Claridges (pre-Ramsay).

And then COVs liver-love stirred memories of fried chicken livers with bacon and pinenuts in a crunchy basket thing at the Green Olive in Little Venice. Would love to eat that again.

So?

Lyrasilvertongue - we stayed near Atri last year and ate in a wonderful little restaurant. And the surroundings made it even better.
But the drive back down the winding roads was quite terrifying!!

LyraSilvertongue · 25/04/2008 21:06

Littlerach, where did you stay?
And did you eat in the restaurant with the glass roof where they do fresh pasta with those mini meatballs? I'll try and find the link to the place we stayed (and yes, the roads were terrifying. Our villa was on a dirt track with a sheer drop on one side).

LyraSilvertongue · 25/04/2008 21:09

We stayed here litterach.

Hellshire beach in Jamaica - fishing boats arrive while you lie on the beach, you saunter over and select your choice of the catch and an hour later you tuck into mouth watering, hot fried fish and festival (flour and cornmeal fried dumpling) and finish that off with a drink of coconut water (chopped open upon request and drunk straight from the nut - heaven!

Virgil's BBQ just off Time Square in New York - the Food was great but it really was just the excitement of being in New York because I had wanted to go for so long.

Also a Seafood Platter outside at a beach front restaurant in Spain. Every type of seafood you can imagine was on it and the sun was setting over the sea. It was the beginning of the season and was pretty much deserted except for us of course.

I've eaten all over the world but the 3 best meals I've ever had were all in France:

one in a tiny restaurant in St Tropez (I still think about the lavender creme brulee)

one in a Michelin restaurant in Cancale

one in a chateau near Lyons

Moro...2006...beef, beetroot and horseradish

(context: pov student, living off frozen veg rice ,doing all cooking etc)

but it was the wine that got me.

I tasted wine for the first time EVER (aged 35) that made me say...'oooh that's what all the fuss is about'

did have fantastic sea food mix with spices in the Diplomatic Quarter of New Delhi - a treat after hogging round India for 6 weeks.

love sea food. Except cod. Which I find to be so......suburban-tasting......

Cammelia · 27/04/2008 11:49

LOL PaninoPan

They're expensive but the best meals I've ever ever eaten were at

Le Gavroche (lunch set menu is reasonable though) and
Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons - mega expensive but divine

Not the places to eat out all the time (!) but fabulous for (very) special occasions.

TotalChaos · 28/04/2008 14:01

chinese restaurant in Rome near Trevi Fountain - chicken with almonds (obviously some fusion cuisine going on there)

TotalChaos · 28/04/2008 14:02

Oh and the food at my friend's Indian wedding. Zillions of different curries to try.

tiredAli · 28/04/2008 14:20

Steak in Buenos Aires.
In one of top restaurants (opposite hotel Madonna stayed whilst filming Evita), 4 people, 3 courses, coffee, aperitifs, 2 bottles of posh wine - just under £100.

littlerach · 28/04/2008 14:29

Lyra, we stayed at my friend's B&B: www.shanticentre.com/blog.html

They have an amazing view as they live half way up the hill to Atri.

I can't remeber the name of the restaurant, but it was very nice, and the owner took real pity on us when we tried to order in Italian!!!

binkleandflip · 28/04/2008 14:30

Fat duck tasting menu as one or two others have said. dp and i gave up talking and just made orgasm noises at every mouthful.

best recently was spaghetti with arselle (bit like vongole but smaller) with dp and ds in Porto pino on the south coast of sardinia a week or so ago.
