he told the dds the other day that they couldn't have any chocolate cake because it was still warm (not hot) from the oven and it would make their tummies ache

eh? I said

'that's what my mother told me,' he said, nervously

I think it's bolleaux

the best chocolate cake is still warm

CatIsSleepy · 21/04/2008 20:45

his mother was avin' a larf I think

bonkerz · 21/04/2008 20:45

i was told the same about bread, something to do with the yeast i think. Dont know really but can remember having to wait till cakes and bread cooled!

TurkeyLurkey · 21/04/2008 20:45

LOL, yes it sounds like twaddle to me. I'm always eating cake warm from the oven cos I'm too greedy to wait and have never been struck down by anything yet.

SmugColditz · 21/04/2008 20:45

I have also heard that bread and cake will give you indigestion if given hot from the oven, as the gluten may not have finished expanding yet.

Saying that, it's never happened to me.

littlegreyrabbit · 21/04/2008 20:46

Sorry dh, your childhood was based on a lie . After all what is hot chocolate fudge cake but hot cake (with no tummy aches).

Has he thought about counselling?

BBBee · 21/04/2008 20:46

bolleaux

ranting · 21/04/2008 20:46

My mum used to say that about bread, never about cake though. Mind you, we ignored her and still ate bread warm from the oven anyway.

bolleaux, imo.

CeilingCat · 21/04/2008 20:47

It's a lie. I believed this too until I was about 24. Then I started baking cakes and eating them (well you know how reckless you can be when you're young ). My extensive testing has conclusively shown that warm cake does not give you tummy ache.

BBBee · 21/04/2008 20:47

she might not have been lying - she may have been told that when she was a child and believed it was true.

'selling like hot cakes...'

mybestfriendiscalledstig · 21/04/2008 20:47

LOL. I think that may be true for children's tummies. Adult tunnies are tough & can cope with, nay thrive on, warm chocolate cake

Beauregard · 21/04/2008 20:48

I ate a banana cake which was warm once and it gave me tummy ache so he could be right.
Would do it again though lol.

Lol at Califrau.

WanderingTrolley · 21/04/2008 20:51

Alas, he has been lied to and quite cruelly.

Break it to him gently about the tooth fairy.

bonkerz · 21/04/2008 21:01
