Toffee recipe anyone?

When I was younger i used to make toffee - I can recall using butter, sugar, golden syrup and a bit of vinegar. This made a brittle toffee.

What i cannot recall are the quantities of each. My DD is desperate to try my home made toffee. Does anyone have a recipe they could share?

TIA

l lb brown sugar.
5 fl.oz water.
1 tablespoon golden syrup.
2 oz. butter.
1 tsp. malt vinegar.

Put all ingredients in a large pan. Heat until sugar has dissolved, do not boil yet. Once sugar has dissolved - boil until when some dropped into cold water in a cup turns brittle. Pour into greased tin. Mark with a knife before quite set and when cold break into pieces

I used to make this with my mum when I was little and have still kept the recipe, kids love it

Is it chewy or crunchy toffee?
