I have been planning all day to do a risotto, went to the cupboard tipped in what was left of the risotto rice, frying that off, went to the cupboard to get the other packet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there isnt another packet . There is not enough fo r 4 of us, even when I bulk it out with peas and ham etc, can I add Basmati rice to it. I was gonna do cheese in the risotto rice, would this be ok as well

Thanks in advance

I once made a risotto with Basmati rice accidentally. It was a bit different, but worked perfectly well - you just get a less creamy result.

cheers I will do that then

That's OK! I have also had a rice disaster tonight - have not enough white basmati, so have had to mix it with brown basmati. Must be Rice Disaster Night tonight!

Do you still fry it off, like with risootot?

I'm always running our of arborio, and always have basmati in.

shinyshoes, it'll be fab. A bit of creaminess from the risotto rice and a bit of bite from the basmati. Just tell everyone you planned it that way. It'll be great, honest.

SoMuchToBits · 19/04/2008 18:52

Yes, when I made my risotto mistake, everyone still ate it and thought it was tasty.

(with apologies to Califrau for completely disagreeing, but have been there and it's fine!)

shinyshoes · 19/04/2008 19:16

I did it and it was lush yay I just cooked the Basmati and only added a little bit, it was equal to the amount of Risotto rice and I was very happy with result.

Thanks all
