Recipes please for a steamer, tried and tested by your lovely selves of course... I'm hoping it will help to lose those extra lbs gained over christmas and new year....

I got one for Christmas (Stove top one), so would also be grateful for some tips and recipes.

errr, we just steam veg, brocoli carrots etc..

pixiefish · 05/01/2005 11:14

same here, just steam the veg. also steam chicken thighs prior to barbeque in the summer

beachyhead · 05/01/2005 11:15

Just steam all your veg - if you have multiple layers, put the veg that take the longest on the bottom layer......

Mothernature · 05/01/2005 11:21

I was thinking more on the lines of whole fish, or fish portions and chicken breasts and any other meat you can do in a steamer...

yep- you can cook any of those, be careful that raw meat juiv-ces doesn't go on the veg though

One of my favourites is steamed cod, and then steaming some rice and adding a few lemon halves to it, it gives the rice a lovely tang.

We are on our third steamer now and are in need of another, we use ours nearly every day and only ever boil potatoes now.

what happened to the first two??

I steam chicken and fish but actually put them in foil parcels. I lightly butter the foil add meat/fish with wine (couple of tablespoons), herbs and seasoning and make a loose parcel. Then steam veg on the top layer.

Always much appreciated and v. few dishes to wash.

A layer of lemon slices then rainbow trout or salmon and boil new pots in the water below. Serve with salad yum.

anteater, I KNEW someone would ask that lol.

We used them so much when dd1 & dd2 were younger, steaming the food for their dinners, plus doing our own that we wore them out and they went kapputt.

Had a picture of a huge piece of whale meat sitting on your steamer Never tried steamed fish, but will give it a whirl later...

BubblesDeVere · 06/01/2005 17:34

Steamed fish is lovely, I've never tried steamed chicken, so I think that I will give that ago in the near future.

mishmash · 06/01/2005 17:58

Have to admit I bought one with great intentions but have only used it a couple of times - great for veg though and chicken.

Mothernature · 06/01/2005 21:35

Well we had our first meal from ours this evening and it was delish... must admit though I did microwave the fish as the other dishes were full of veggies...lol

I can't believe we can now actually taste the veg rather than it being all washed away with boiling water.

BubblesDeVere · 07/01/2005 11:54

Ican't eat enough organic steamed cauliflower, it tastes divine.
