anyone got any great ideas? is for DD2s birthday next weekend...she'll be three...she doesn't like chocolate and would like a strawberry cake...unfortunately oven is broken and am unlikely to have it fixed by the weekend

I bought some of those boudoir sponge fingers thingies I've made yummy things in the past by soaking them in alcohol and putting lots of cream in...mmmmm...obviously can't use the booze for a bunch of 3yos...any ideas?

(I could of course buy one...but where would be the stress inducing challenge fun in that?)

Buy meringue and make a strawberry pavlova?

oooh, great suggestions..I love that big cake in shape of a strawberry - that would be lovely as the birthday cake - although I prefer the thought of the strawberry tiramisu it is harder to make look like birthday cake

how do you make rocky road? she does quite like white chocolate it has recently come to light - though the cornflake cakes with strawberry flakes would be great actually

pavlova does sound good too - have never seen big meringue nests but will have a look on friday

jg- my recipe for rocky road all you need do is swap white chocolate for the dark and a couple of packets of strawberry flakes for the nuts or add a bit more chocolate and it should all balance out nicely... if we actually had any white chocolate or strawberry flakes in the house i would be quite tempted to make it myself to be honest..or at least some white chocolate and straberry flake rice crispy treats.....

oh and you wont need the cream and sugar if you are adding an extra half bar of white chocolate..only need them to balanace out the dark chocolate...

Strawberry and White Chocolate Rocky Road

ingredients:

200g good quality white chocolate (2 x 100g bars)
2 cups mini marshmallows
1/2 cup straberry flakes (3-4 packets)
1 cup short bread or other biscuits (butter cookies) broken into small pieces
2 tablespoons butter

Line a 8x8 square pan with waxed paper

Melt the chocolate and the butter in the microwave or on the stove top.

Add the nuts, biscuit pieces, strawberry flakes, and the marshmallows. Mix until just combined.

Spread into lined pan and refrigerate until firm.

Dust with icing sugar and cut into squares or rectangles.

I live in London too .. this is a perfect way to get to know your neighbours better

or .. buy a pre-made sponge and decorate it

or do an eton mess

or do a birthday jelly
